| A mighty roar of engines burst through the atmosphere, as a lone cruiser descended towards the capital of New Serpentum. A single transport escaped the larger ship, falling until it landed daintily at the foot of the citadel. Grand Inquisitor Krieg, followed by two Guerran Knights, each unarmed, and a small group of soldiers carrying a large basket, left the ship in a calm fashion, before the transport retreated back into the sky. "People of the Reich! Today, we will make history!" Krieg shouted to his unarmed soldiers, who gave hoorays and excited shouts.
The Grand Inquisitor examined the massive citadel. He found it strange how it seemed so different from the cityscape around it, seemingly jutting from the earth in its massiveness. But, Krieg was not here to ponder, he thought to himself. No, he was here to make a great friendship with the Imperium that may last as long as the stars themselves. Slowly, he began to make his way up the citadel's mighty steps, accompanied by his entourage of troops. |

| Massive arched doorways would open to the approaching Reich forces and standing within flanked by an contingent of guards clad in golden armour was the chamberlain....The violet scaled Varanus would bow to welcome Krieg and his men before she turned towards the pathway that led into the Citadel outer garden and the pathway that would take them to the airlock gate.
The entourage would be led through this pathway with the beak-faced helms of the Citadel Guard keeping watch as they followed from behind, making sure the Reich forces are within pole's reach should they try anything. The trip through the fantastical outer garden would be brief as the entourage would be ushered into the titanic Citadel. The Chamberlain would twist her head only twice to ensure all is well with the Reich troops and after about 5 minutes of walking down the metallic corridor they reached an circular chamber that contained several pathways to other areas of the ship, surprisingly for the chamberlain the Citadel was rather empty today.....The entourage would then continued on straight towards an carpeted hallway that led to an large guarded doorway adorned with the sigils of the Imperium.
The Chamberlain stopped and turned to inspect the Reich diplomats and their gift, before explaining some of the customs of the Court.
"When you enter the hall please bow to acknowledge the Court, always bow when addressing his majesty and refer to the Emperor as either your majesty or your grace. You may establish eye-contact with his majesty since you are visitors to the Court on his behalf....."
The Chamberlain would then grin at Krieg and dust of his shoulder before she smiled once again. "Whenever you are ready."
She would await Krieg's response then nod to the guards who opened the doors revealing an large hall, the floors made of an marblesque material showing faint reflections much like frosted glass.Seated on opposing flanks of the hall was the various nobles of the Imperium who looked at the Reich with mixtures of disgusted grins, curiosity and smiles. An experienced diplomat could feel the tension in the hall, some among the nobles wore military coats adorned with medals....The heads of the military who would keep an close eye on the Reich and on Krieg. There was whispers from the nobles as the Reich diplomats entered the room.Unlike the other Varanidae almost all of these nobles had wings and horns far more broad then the majority the Reich might have seen.
"Lords and Ladies of the Court...We welcome the Inquisitorial Reich." The Chamberlain would announce
The Chamberlain then direct Krieg and his retinue to the center of the hall where an rounded sigil stood etched in the floor, straight ahead lies the Terrasque throne and the winged golden Emperor who sat upon it without an word the Emperor stirred his sceptre tapping it once causing an echo to fill the hall that silenced the nobles and officers.
The Emperor's aide clad in hooded robes relayed the Court's welcome.
"Welcome Krieg of the Reich.....Your reputation proceeds you as we have observed during the Sabatonian Campaign....Once again we wish to thank the Reich for their sacrifice in aiding the Legion.....The circumstances would have otherwise made the battle costly despite our.....many dealings with the Flickr before....Now shall we begin our talks or do you wish for refreshment?" |

| Krieg strode merrily into the Court, bowing before the Gold-encrusted Emperor. He shook his head at the question of refreshments. "Not at all, my good sir! But, your majesty, I have brought refreshments for you. Soldiers, show him our gift basket."
With a loud heaving, the soldiers brought the large metal crate between the two leaders, before it slowly opened from the top, compacting back to reveal a menagerie of containers. Krieg grabbed a small metal tube. "Thennan Caviar, harvested from a Kax nest after its defeat," he enamoured, "Tastes divine!" He set it down before grabbing another container, "And this is several cuts of a Panlin delecacy, some oceanic fish-like creatuew with a name I cannot pronounce. This, and a vast variety of other things!" Another group of soldiers slowly walked into the court, carrying something large under a tarp. As they set it down, one pulled off the tarp swiftly, revealing a large, taxidermied beast. "This is a Lupushound, straight from the forests of Guerre. I specifically hunted a feral pack of them and shot this beautiful alpha wolf, just to bring to you today. But, enough with my gifts, yes? Let us begin by talking about the biggest issue in the room: The Immortals. Obviously, this peace will not last for long, but I am interested on which side you will fight, or you remain neutral. So please, explain to us your place in the upcoming?" |

| The Imperial Guards tightened their grip on their spears as the soldiers brought the crate forward keeping an faceless watch under their beak-shaped helms.
As the Reich revealed their gift the Nobles would whisper around the court...sharing their interests and views upon the tribute. These humans seemed eager to please with their gifts....His majesty however had little interest in such small gifts of decadence, the soldiers brought another gift that was revealed as an taxidermied beast that caused some of the nobles to mutter hushed gasps. The Emperor stirred from his seat as he shifted his sceptre into his other clawed hand. When Krieg mentioned the Immortals and directly addressed the growing tension between them did the golden Varanus lift his head in full attention grinning as his mind raced.
With an strained smile the aged Emperor spoke from his raised dais looking down on Krieg like an adult to it's child.
"Your gifts are much appreciated and I applaud you for your huntsmanship.....But formalities aside regarding the rumors of this war I personally wish to know why the relationship between you and the Immortals be so....Divided....We know you have an hatred towards the force or art known as magic....Also my military council has mixed concerns over an war between the Immortals and Reich and for the moment our concerns lie in remaining neutral....My Armada cannot afford being stretched further by an conflict.
The Imperium wished to remain neutral yet they had to punish the Immortals for their humiliation on Omega, the Emperor's aide kept scribbling on his holopad taking notes on the diplomatic meeting for review later by the senior Court members and the Emperor.Several servants dressed in elegant butler like suits awaited for the order to carry away the gifts of the Reich their faces stern with impatience. |

| "Your Majesty," Krieg addressed the question by the Emperor, "The reason we are so aggressive towards the heathens that we speak of is their goals and their actions. Their goal is to end slavery, yes? Well, that is impossible without pushing other, smaller nations around to do their work. This is where we move into their next point, their actions." He pulled out a folder from his coat jacket, unrolling it, and beginning to read its content. "..The Omega Situation, yes? Where they nearly opened fire onto a station under your jurisdiction? And then the court case where they nearly pushed their ideals upon your people because it hurt the Immortal diplomats' feelings? You are willing to sit back and let them force you into submission, Your Majesty?!"
What Krieg did not say was where he got the information from. An exile of the Imperium, known as Ozma Thruzk. Krieg did not know why he was exhiled. All he knew was that he was thrown from the Imperials for a reason involving the dark arts, and that interested the Grand Inquisitor. |

| The Emperor shifted to the left of his throne as if his thoughts caused some discomfort when he was actually angered...This human implied that he would conform to Zodarrin beliefs.....The Varanus had little diplomatic ties with the other galactic powers....The Immortals was their first contact with the milky way races, and it made sense that the Imperium was more cautious in maintaining an friendly relationship......However they will not conform....Too many have died on their way here...The Emperor will not allow his legacy, his people to be warped by the Zodarrin.
The Emperor pick one thing up however.....This human...This Inquisitor was very well informed....He suspected there was more to this but that would be for another time. The Emperor stood from his seat, hunched as the sceptre he carried extended into an staff he used as an walking cane, the golden Emperor would take one step down from the dais as he kept an watchful grin on Krieg.....An sinister tension filled the room as none of the nobles dared speak or whisper, the winged Emperor would remain quiet for two minutes just watching Krieg with an unreadable expression.
"And what do you propose then Zodarrin?.....I go to war hrm?.....I can see that if we join forces the Immortals would be pushed onto two fronts.....My Imperators have already lectured me upon how decisive such an move would be?......But why join forces....We can quite easily sit back and watch you both tear each-other apart....Like the Imakanri against an Isonade hound.....It would be quite amusing to watch."
The Court was already wary enough of outsiders.....The Emperor's patience wearing thin....Pride was rooted deep in the Varanus.....The Imperials had little care for magic.....little care for the Zodarrin and their petty wars....However the Emperor as well as the Court full well knew the benefits they could gain if they punished the Immortals for their humiliation.....And even more so if the Immortals would bow in vassal-ship.....Of course....That is if the Imperium chose to assist the Reich. |

| "The Immortals are not hounds, your majesty. They are more akin to terran rats. They will first come for the nearest food, and then when they run us out, they will turn for you, seeing you as a weak food, easy for the taking. Even now, as reported by a spy I have planted in their skin, they are creating vast amounts of new technology to make it impossible for us to fight them alone. I know your navy is lacking, but the Reich can supply the Imperium with auxiliary fleets. You have nothing to fear, Emperor; If we both fight the Immortals, they simply cannot win."
Krieg continued on, "Emperor, I can tell that you are simply ready to make the Immortal's land burn under your fury. So please, join us in this crusade, and we can assure that your people will not only survive, but prosper! Apex will burn under the Imperium and the Reich's glorious blades! But this will only happen if you, your majesty, will assist us in our calamity. And in doing so, we shall help with yours. In fact, I can even provide you with a fleet right this very moment, but only if you are willing to fight the ones who almost forced their heinous traditions upon you."
The Grand Inquisitor finished. He then stood, awaiting a reply from the Imperial Emperor above. He hoped that these words would move the Imperial Royalty enough for their assistance on the great threat of the Immortals and join them in their downfall. |

| An good argument....Imperial spies themselves speak of the advancing military technology in the Immortals....Technology while not impressive to the Court was still more advanced then what the Imperium could currently deploy on the field. The ships the Reich offered may not meet the steep standards the Armada was used to but it would lessen the strain placed on Imperial Factories, especially while Turun was still being staffed.
The Emperor had little care for the Reich,he knew from the reports that they were an formidable fighting force, and their aid on Sabaton was well appreciated.....This Krieg was smart...Playing on ambitions that would sate the Court's pride....If he was Varanus he would have done well in the trappings of Imperial intrigue....But his majesty was humored well enough.
The Immortals was an threat....Especially after settling on Scythe-145 which was located in what the Court saw as sovereign Imperial territory.....The Emperor stood on the dais the silence in the court uncomforting for some of the nobles who would fake an cough or shift from their seats.
The Emperor would turn his gaze to his military staff seated to the right of the Court, with an grin he turned his face towards Krieg as he lowered himself back into the Throne, twisting his wings around to create the illusion of curtains....The staff became an sceptre once again which the Emperor held towards Krieg.
"You....Zodarrin....have convinced me.....We shall assist you in the conflict.....Does anyone of the Court disagree?"
None would answer.
"Very well......The Imperium will stand with the Reich to stop the Immortal hegemony from infecting our own.......But first as is customary to every agreement in an war...."
Two servants entered the throne hall carrying an large pillow upon which an ancient greatsword stood, they would carry it and lower it to Krieg's feet.
"This is the blade of Varan, the first Varanus....The very same blade that was used to slay Nasnas..one of our gods...This blade has since been used as an agreement between the Varanus kingdoms of past as an symbol of trust....If you would kindly pick up the sword and point the hilt towards the sky."
The Emperor then stood from the Throne, his sceptre extending into an staff once again as he slowly walked towards Krieg for his part of the ancient pact.
He would then extend his right hand to grip the hilt whilst telling Krieg to do the same. Once that was done did the Emperor speak with an slight smile.
"By the Five and the Varanus warrior-kings of before, may this pact be blessed and fruitful while our enemies treble."
The Emperor had never done the rite of Varan ever during his reign, the Reich had the word of the Varanus for assistance....But trust can only be earned in blood as is taught in the legion...The Reich was the first Zodarrin force that would have been given this great honour.
After the rite the servants took the sword back to the archives where all relics of the Imperium's glorious and sorrowed past stood. |

| Krieg held the sword as demanded, and listened to the ritualistic rites of the Varanus Emperor. He was happy to find a common enemy, and to come together to defeat said enemy.
"It is an honor, your majesty," Grand Inquisitor Krieg stated, "I hope that our alliance will stay strong through the ages." He began to step away, "I am sorry about this, but I cannot stay long. There is much to attend to, you know? The tides churn, and they look to become fierce. My ships will arrive soon to supplement your fleets, and our armaments will be shared with you. The Reich will reinforce our friendship, no matter what."
As Krieg exited the palace, a transport descended and landed, Quickly, the Grand Inquisitor and his troops entered the ship, which rose quickly back into the sky. "T'is a grand day for the Reich, gentlemen," Krieg congratulated, "And I must say, I congratulate all of you for being with me today. Our meeting was perfect, and it went exactly as planned."
The Transport returned to the cruiser, before it too left New Serpentum, its crew filled with new-found honor and pride.
