Name: Haven
Habitable: Naturally Habitable
Terrain: Earth-like (Oceans, desert, tundra, forests, artificial volcanoes, etc)
Size: Large (Earth like gravity artificially simulated)
Population: 50% Sentinels, 20% Surface-based animals, 30% Underwater animals
Location: Outskirts of the Milky Way (Outer Arm)
Development Thread: N/A
Technology: Advanced. The entire planet was artificially created by a race of advanced beings known as The Forerunners. The Forerunners have been given a rank of a Tier-1 (World Builder) species. Characteristics of such a species' technological capabilities are as follows:
"The species has the ability to manipulate gravitational forces, create AI with full sentience, fabricate super-dense materials, perform super-accurate slips pace (warp-space/subspace/FTL,etc) navigation, the ability to create life, and the ability to create worlds."
History:
Haven was one of the Forerunner's most fortified Shield Worlds made fully for militaristic purposes. When the Forerunner army's supreme commander The Didact commissioned for the Shield Worlds to be built, Haven was one of the first. However this artificial planet saw very limited, if any use in the upcoming wars faced by the Forerunners partially due to its secretive nature. The planet was more or less forgotten by The Forerunners and continued to remain enigmatic to the rest of the galaxy for the next 100'000 years that followed the Forerunners' extinction.
Sometime in 2555, the United Nations Space Command stumbled onto Haven when an exploration party found it in the outskirts of the Milky Way. Unable to gain access to the planet, the UNSC established a presence there for research and analysis of the artificial world. By 2558, the planet began to show some activity when a Fireteam of Spartans approached the sealed entrance to the planet, which unexpectedly opened and pulled the Fireteam in via gravity beam due to the arrival and attack of an alien army. This kickstarted long and tedious Battle of Haven which eventually ended in massacre during a three-way struggle between the UNSC, the Covenant alien army, and Haven's native Sentinels. Less than a dozen UNSC survivors made it off-planet and five years on, the planet once again lies abandoned with only evidence remaining of the battle that had taken place.
Description:
Haven is a Shield World, meaning the entire planet was artificially made. Therefore there are many curious features, the most prominent of which are:
- Metallic Outer Shell: Made of an unknown, superdense metal that remain unaffected by even the UNSC's most powerful SuperMAC Cannons.
- Gravity Beam: A blue aura-like beam projected from a structure located directly underneath the opening, near one of the Cartographers. Capable of capturing entire starships and pulling them into the planet.
- Entrance: A circular portal-like opening located on the outer shell. Remains mostly closed, however they have been shown to open automatically in response to certain stimuli in the surrounding space, or can directly be opened from any of the two control rooms.
- Cartographer Buildings: Only three in total, located in equidistant locations around the planet in their own unique biomes. Each building contains translocation gates as well as a map of that Cartographer's third of the planet.
- Control Room: Located near another one of the Cartographers. Main control hub of the entire planet. Can be used to operate every structure on Haven excluding The Superweapon.
- The Superweapon: Located near the third Cartographer. Can only be activated from the Core Room Antechamber. Immensely powerful energy weapon that is capable of destroying planets.
- Core Room Antechamber: Located within the hollow core of Haven. Contains thousands of Forerunner ships as well as a central platform that is the primary control room of the entire planet. Can do everything the other control room can, except it can also be used to activate The Superweapon as well as reprogram the native Sentinels to an extent.
- Terminus(es): Small structures ubiquitously located throughout the surface of the entire planet. Teleportation hubs that can be used to traverse the slip-space translocation grid that spans the entire planet.
- Master Terminus: Megastructure located in a desert canyon that has a diameter of 400 miles. Can be used to access Core Room Antechamber.
- Slip-space Translocation Grid: Can be travelled across instantaneously by accessing translocation gates at Cartographers, Terminuses, or any of the two control rooms.
- Line Installations: Small structures located in strategic positions around the planet. Capable of emitting a powerful energy beam skywards that can gut any UNSC, Covenant or even Forerunner spaceships within a single shot. The installations are also capable of firing into slip-space and can project slip-space portals that transport the energy beams to other locations on the planet to strike any designated spaceship outside it's range (note that this requires an AI to perform).
- Particle Cannons: Forerunner AA guns that are capable of disintegrated small aircraft. Strategically placed around structures of high value.
- Sentinel Production Facilities: Small structures located above the cloud layer of Haven above significant structures. Able to produce a new sentinel every six seconds when activated.
- Underground Bunkers: Massive underground chambers suspended in slip-space made up of multiple platforms containing living quarters, armouries, an abundance of livestock, emergency escape pods and suspended animation chambers.
- Underground Tunnels: Miles-long tunnels that run underneath the entire surface of Haven. Can be traversed as shortcuts to certain locations on the planet in absence of slip-space teleportation.
