Scarlet Grimoire: A powerful grimoire penned by Ellen before her possession. Originally used as a repository for knowledge and a tool primarily purposed for scientific studies, after Ellen was claimed by the demon Zar'Wen, it was corrupted into a vessel of blood magic bound in deep red. It has the ability to absorb and store lifeblood to which it is exposed, keeping it fresh and ready for use to power spells, with its maximum capacity being about ten liters (about twice the amount contained in an average adult human body). The book's surfaces are slick to the touch and it often leaks its crimson ink, especially when its owner is excited or anxious.

As with all users of Grimoire Magic, Elenwen loses most of her magical capability if separated from it by any significant distance, with the loss of power increasing in proportion to the distance by which she is separated from the book. It stays with her at all times, typically floating beside her figure in mid-air.

Powers
Blood Magic: In addition to the standard ability to create and manipulate blood constructs to be used as weapons, armor, projectiles, etc., Elenwen has the ability to absorb knowledge and basic skills (such as how to operate a particular weapon or vehicle; not magical or supernatural skills such as chi manipulation) from the blood that her grimoire consumes and stores, corresponding to the being that the blood was taken from. As a result, she has accumulated a motley assortment of random abilities and talents, although she doesn't always think to apply them in a useful manner.

History
Ellen Saarthel was an eccentric, but accomplished scientist working for the GSU on various technological projects, using a specialized grimoire to store vast amounts of knowledge for quick access and thus aid in her projects. When she turned thirty, an unknown incident resulted in the possessor demon Zar'Wen claiming her as a host, leading to a complete transformation of her person. The thing resulting from their union is neither Ellen nor Zar'Wen, but a new personality altogether, forged from their destructive struggle for control over the body. This new persona is violent and unpredictable, driven partially mad by the violent merging process that gave birth to it.

The newly "born" Elenwen quickly left Earth and disappeared into the Remnant Sector for three years, replacing her previous scientific endeavors with a frenzied study of blood magic and the Blood Realm from which its power was drawn, which she developed an unexplained and unhealthy obsession with. Foregoing protective runes or rituals in favor of relying on her half-demon nature to keep herself out of the Blood Realm, she drew dangerously close to the voices of that dark dimension, darkening her personality further and causing her to develop a pronounced streak of sadomasochism. Upon returning from the Remnant Sector, she serves the Serpentum Imperium as an agent of chaos willing to be deployed anywhere and do anything in order to further the Imperium's goals. Whether she is truly loyal to the Imperium, or simply using it as a sponsor to facilitate her thirst for violence and "blood knowledge," is anyone's guess.

Elenwen appears as a human woman with long red hair and bright red eyes as the only outward tells of her true nature, but when she becomes enraged or otherwise provoked, she can display more overt demonic traits. Her physical attributes are enhanced above what they should be for a human of her size and build, but not to a supernatural extent.
