| #1Subject: Irkalla, the Broken Planet[WIP] Fri Jul 14, 2017 3:59 am | |
| Please, do not roleplay on this planet without my OOC and IC permission. And don't Meta-Game this information. The Ananaki keep a tight lid on their planet and culture. In other words, this isn't public knowledge.
Thank you. ***** Name: Irkalla, the 'Broken Planet' Habitable: Yes, it is naturally habitable Terrain: Wasteland(semi-volcanic), Savannah (+ 2 sub-biomes), Swamp (+2 sub-biomes), Jungle (+1 sub-biome), Cave system with own ecosystem, Floating Islands,... Size: Small Population: 55% Ananaki, 45% Narx'un Location: 75.000 LY at 15 degrees. ***** Technology: Highly Advanced Magi-Tech and Crystal Tech. ***** History - Planet History:
Irkalla used to be a rogue planet in the Orion Nebula long before the Ananaki first came into existence within the Material Plane. And because Irkalla didn't have a star to orbit around, which would've provided the planet with a day-night cycle, it instead became a dark and gloomy place. But the planet compensated for its lack of light source with its bioluminescent plant life. Before the 'Great Collapse' the planet once had oceans and had similar biomes to the ones on Earth, even polar caps. The Ananaki are the only sentient species on the planet, with the Narx'un being a semi-sentient insectoid species. The Ananaki have been at war with the Narx'un ever since the bug species grew seemingly overnight at an exponential rate. The Ananaki reached a 'civilized' state upon discovering the many crystal deposits that grow underground. A type of mineral that emits a magical energy, and in some cases can influence their immediate surroundings. There came a time during a 'pre-convergence' era that Irkalla was caught into a solar system, giving the planet a fixed position for once. This gave the Ananaki the opportunity to advance their technology to explore the stars around them. One of the most notable species the Ananaki encountered were a human-like species on a planet, and culture, similar to the Earth tales of Conan the Barbarian. Supposedly there has been some inter-species breeding between the two species which caused the Ananaki Genocide of their offspring. Later on, Irkalla collided with a massive asteroid which caused the destruction of their planet, shattering it in pieces. The force of the blow was large enough to cause a chunk of the planet to get flung out of orbit again, turning the remnants of Irkalla into a rogue planet once more. The scars of that event are still noticeable to this day. Slowly the Ananaki rebuild their world on the only chunk they survived. Clearing the planet of radiation, and terraforming the biomes to save the flora and fauna. The Ananaki were successful in saving their homeworld and just when the planet was finally getting stable again, The Convergence happened. Pulling the planet out of their galaxy and flung it into another. The planet eventually became tidal-locked with a blue gas giant and its 3 moons which can be seen from the skyline.
***** Description Irkalla is a small, somewhat dome-shaped, planet with warm and humid climate; there are no polar caps on the planet. The gravity is slightly lower than Earth's. Most plant life on Irkalla is bioluminescent and suffers from gigantism, including a couple of animal species. It is a somewhat nocturnal planet due to the blue gas giant blocking off most of the light given by the system's star. Throughout the planet there are large pieces of floating land ranging in sizes of boulders to small islands. Most of these floating islands are covered in vegetation like; trees, bushes, grass, etc... where small reptilian birds and critters call it home. They float due to the Yellow Crystals, called Coxtic by the natives, that grow in the center of them. The biomes on the planet are classified as 'mega' biomes due to their size compared to planet surface. - Black Wasteland:
Black Wasteland, it is the scar of Irkalla and evidence of the asteroid impact. The whole biome is essentially a giant black crater. When the asteroid impacted it caused the planet to shatter in pieces, and where it impacted it caused the landscape to be altered. Ominous dark mountains grew where there were once lush valleys, and where there were once mountain ranges they collapsed and formed the ravines that exposed the lava rivers below. Now the blackened soil is dry and cracked, with large patches of black sand here and there. Jagged spires dot the landscape making the place look even more ominous while dark openings in the ground or mountains lead to the hives of the gluttonous Narx'un. Any water pools available are boiling hot as they bubble with toxic sulfuric gasses. Oxygen is very low here due to the toxic fumes and ashen skies caused by the lava rivers and the occasional volcanic eruptions. Travelers will require the use of breathing apparatus to get around the landscape. This biome has a very hot and very dry climate, dehydration and asphyxia are very real threats here. There is very little vegetation growing here apart from the pale Creeproot and the sacred glowing Ghostbloom that grows near lava rivers and volcanic chutes. And there are very few animals that managed to adapt to the harsh and toxic environments, such as the pale Sand-Wurm that likes to burrow in soft soil awaiting its prey. The many ravines of the Black Wasteland seem to be rich in Orange Crystals, known as Xoc'ialli by the Ananaki. But the landscape also seems to have a large amount of Red Crystals, known as Ci'iltic. Thanks to the asteroid impact of the past, the Ananaki seem to find a lot of Meteoric Iron within the Wasteland.
- Savannah:
Savannah, this is an interesting biome seeing as this used to be an ocean. This fact may not be noticeable on foot but when flying around at great heights one will notice how this biome is sort of bowl shaped. Which oceans are but can't be seen because of all the water. When the asteroid impacted it evaporated all the water from the ocean, exposing the deep trenches and hidden 'mountains' below. The soil is now dry and somewhat sandy but unlike the Black Wasteland, there is plenty of vegetation growing. The landscape is known for its red, orange, and yellow colors. Here and there are large rock formations but sometimes you can also find canyons and former 'ocean trenches'. It's within those ravines that one can find access to Irkalla's cave system. Water however is found in small amounts in 'oasis', where vegetation tends to be more green. It's a very hot climate outside the Monsoon season though. The most prominent vegetation one finds here are the Red Moss that seems to grow on almost anything, including trees. And the Yellow Broad-Leaf Grass. The local wildlife seems to extract the necessary moisture from these grasses when they can't find any proper water sources. But where there is significant amounts of water, like large pools or streams then vegetation seems to be booming. Displaying themselves as lush green patches with large trees, also known as an 'oasis'. The most infamous animals of the Savannah are; the Sand-Wolf, the Horned Rabbit, the Kangaraffe, and the Gold-Belly Salamander. All perfect examples on how well life adapted itself after the Great Collapse. This biome still has numerous Xoc'ialli (Orange Crystals) but a lot less than the Wasteland, however there are pockets of Emerald Green Crystals called Xoxoctic by the natives that tend to grow where oasis' are. There are also deposits of Brozahrium, a brass-like metal that the Ananaki use as coating for boats.
- Sub-biome Plateau:
The sub-biome of the Savannah. The Plateau, also known as the former Ocean Trenches. Now that those trenches were exposed to light and oxygen, over the centuries the landscape began to 'bleach' and dry out. The wind eroding the surface and thus creating the Plateau. The soil is harder here but then deeper down the trenches you go the more muddy it gets. Due to the presence of water being more prevalent here there tends to be more green vegetation here. The way the plateau is shaped can be compared to 'saucers' sitting atop pillars. Natural rock bridges that connect some of the saucers, or plateaus, are proof of what time and erosion can do to the landscape. This sub-biome is the coolest place in temperature that one can find in the Savannah. it is also the wettest because during the Monsoon season these trenches tend to flood, creating rapid rivers that disappear into Irkalla's cave system. You can find plenty of oasis here which consist of jungle-type trees with vines and other jungle-type bushes. Reptiles and a small monkey species make these plateaus their home. However, when you walk down the trenches you will see vegetation of the mushroom variant. During the Second Light season, these trenches get an eerie glow that can be seen from miles away. The poisonous Flatworms and the bat-like Feratus are the most infamous inhabitants of the Plateau biome. This place tends to have more Xoxoctic (Emerald-Green Crystals) as is evident by the many green vegetation. The plateau also has Gold deposits that the Ananaki use for jewelry. And veins of Arcanite. Due to the useful deposists but also to monitor the Flora and Fauna of the region, the Ananaki made an outpost here nestled in an oasis on the surface.
- The Sub-biome Canyons:
Another sub-biome of the Savannah is the Canyons. This sub-biome borders the Wasteland, almost forming a natural barrier between the Narx'un and the Ananaki with these tall mountains and maze-like canyons. The Ananaki suspect that the asteroid impact caused the ground to shift even here, creating this barrier. The soil is very hard and rocky. The color scheme of this landscape is mostly red and orange. The landscape is a mix of both mountain and canyon, creating twisting corridors that can easily disorientate a person without the proper equipment or preparation. Water is rare in this region but when you find it then it usually comes from a waterfall, creating streams that soon sink into the dry ground. During the Monsoon season these streams can easily become small rivers. Seeing as this sub-biome borders the Wasteland, the temperatures can get very high creating a risk for dehydration, and sunstroke during First Light season. The same moss and grasses can be found here, along with some dry bush plants as well but no trees grow here. This sub-biome does grant many entrances to Irkalla's cave system, allowing the migrating animals a passage to flee either the Monsoon as it floods the depths, or by fleeing the violent storms and Sky Whales during Darkfall season. The Canyons are home to the poisonous Red-Scale Scorpion and the flocks of the goofy looking Dodo-Birds. There are few deposits of Red Crystals here and Orange ones. But there is a mineral type called Barristone that has magical properties, sadly this one is rare. This sub-biome does have 3 Ananaki Outposts to monitor the Narx'un numbers and behavior, and to protect the migrating animals from falling prey to them.
- Swamp:
The Swamps of Irkalla, probably the most enchanting place there is on the planet. Especially during the Second Light season. It is a unique biome seeing as plants are mostly replaced by a mushroom type of vegetation that vary in all sizes, shapes and colors. It is also the wettest biome of the planet. The overall landscape is fairly flat with the occasional hills here and there. The soil is, depending where you are, muddy or simply flooded. Unlike all the other biomes, this one does not have any entrances to Irkalla's cave system. The bioluminescence here has the largest color ranges compared to the rest of Irkalla and during the Second Light season it is as if one is walking into a whole different world. The water here is surprisingly clean despite being stagnant and during the Monsoon season the water levels of the swamps get so high that one needs a boat to navigate around. There is lots of vegetation that has adapted itself to the moist environments; most plant life here is of the Mushroom type. They come in all colors, shapes and sizes and a good portion of them suffer from gigantism. An affliction that causes plant life (and sometimes living beings) to be a type of giant often accompanied with mutations. That is why trees here are replaced with Caps, a mushroom type the size of trees. This biome however, along with the jungle has many various poisons. Whether it comes from plants or animals, one should tread carefully here. One of the infamous animals of the swamps are the Snailosaurus, the Swamp Cucumber, and the Parvus. The reason why the water of the swamps are clean is due to the Blue Crystal deposits, also known as Texo'tic by the Ananaki, that jut out of the ground. There are also a special type of Gem vein that grows around these parts here. This biome has an outpost located at one of the old ruins of pre-Great Collapse times.
- Sub-biome, the Marsh:
The Marsh, a sub-biome of the swamps of Irkalla. When people think of marshes they picture lots of water that is somewhat deep with grassy patches throughout the biome. Except in this case one replaces the grass with giant mushrooms whose roots sort of act like 'arches', often entwining itself with roots belonging to other mushroom trees. To get around this terrain you'll either need a boat or have some pretty damn good parkour skills. This biome consists of large bodies of water filled with islands that contain these giant mushroom trees. The water however is not as clean for consumption here, so be careful. There are no safe entrances to Irkalla's cave system as everything is flooded here. during the Monsoon season the water levels rise, pushing out land animals to seek higher ground. But during the Second Light season the 'trees' practically become giant lanterns that light the marshes in a vast array of colors. The Ananaki claim this to be the most romantic spot for couples' night out. The temperatures are almost mild here and humidity is, of course, at the highest. This sub-biome has many small mushroom plants growing but also a lot of flowers. One of the most infamous flowers of the Marsh belong to the Lotus family, which come in several colors and some even have magical properties. Some of the famous animals of the Marsh are the Irkallan Crocodile, some Crustaceans, and the River Cat. Two outposts have been build atop the Lantern-Caps in this biome to, again, monitor the wildlife here while mining for the many Gem veins that can be found deep in the water.
The Mushroom Forest, another sub-biome of the swamps and the driest place that one can find within the swamps. It's around this area where jungle-type plants tend to have found their way here along with some jungle animals that pass through every now and then. The landscape is again fairly flat here. The soil is somewhat muddy and tends to have large pools of water during Monsoon season. During the Second Light season, specifically in the month 'Seeding', it becomes one of the places that are best to be avoided as the mushrooms shed their spores. But the spores are so fine that they can enter and block the airways. There are no natural water sources large enough for drinking, unless during the Monsoon season or extracting moisture from vegetation/animals. Very rarely will you find an entrance to the cave system here that is accessible enough without drowning. The typical 'Caps' trees is the most prominent vegetation that you'll find here, giving off a soft glow in red, orange, yellow, blue, green, and white colors during Second Light. The other infamous mushroom is the 'Phoff-Bulb' named for the sound it makes when they explode when approaching them. ***** The Seasons and the Calendar - Seasons and Calendar:
Because of the nocturnal nature of the planet, its history and how it's now orbiting around the blue gas giant, it is very hard to determine the passage of time here. Irkalla does not have a 'day-night cycle' to indicate how many days have past. What the Ananaki use to base time on is planetary activity and animal activity; ergo Mating Season, or when plant life hibernates. etc... That's why some 'months' can appear short while others are longer. What passes as a season on Irkalla is the times where the overall brightness of the bioluminescent life shifts and the changes in weather patterns. Irkalla counts 4 seasons. 1 Year by 'Human' standards has 434 days divided into 16 months that are; 14 - day months, 28 - day months, and 42 - day months depending on animal and planet activity. The 4 seasons are; First Light, when the planet seems to be stuck in perpetual twilight as Irkalla is positioned in such a way where it can soak up the few rays of light that peek behind the blue gas giant it orbits around. The gas giant appears almost like an eclipse in the sky while the 3 moons (Big Brother, Little Brother, Little Sister) are barely visible. Temperatures are at an all-time high and humidity is at its lowest. The skies are clear with hardly any rainfall. The Months of First Light are; - Flock Return (28 days) = Animals return to their birthing grounds, most notably the reptilian birds of the floating islands. - Blossoming (14 days) = Most flowers all over Irkalla are in full bloom during this time of year. - First Planting (14 days) = Time to plant the first batch of crops to be harvested later during Monsoon season. - Mating Season (42 days) = most animals breed while others lay eggs. Monsoon, the twilight skies slowly begin to darken throughout the season, and the first signs of bioluminescent plant life are beginning to show. The gas giant and the 3 moons are mostly hidden behind rain clouds around this time which brings us to heavy rainfall throughout the season. Temperatures take a small dip and humidity is at an all time high while water levels are rising throughout the swamps, canyons, and trenches including the cave system. The months of Monsoon are; - Skydark (14 days) = the first signs of rainfall have begun. - First Harvest ( 28 days) = last chance to harvest the crops before they are ruined by the rain. - Riverflow (42 days) = the City's channels are flooded and critters are forced to seek higher ground. - Last Rain (28 days) = rainfall is diminishing and water levels are slowly dropping again. Second Light, the planet has now darkened as Irkalla is completely hidden behind the gas giant while a second celestial body slowly flanks the planet from behind. As such the bioluminescent plant life becomes quite the light show. Temperatures are rising while water levels have returned to normal, leaving behind a fertile mud-layer. The skies are clear, granting a beautiful view of the other planets and its moons. The months of Second Light are; - Second Planting (14 days) = time for the second batch of crops to be planted. - Seeding (28 days) = the Mushrooms are shedding their spores. - Hatching (28 days) = most animal offspring have been born and the last eggs have hatched. - Hibernation (42 days) = plantlife is slowly losing its light. Darkfall, with the dormant plantlife losing its illuminance the planet has now turned completely dark. Irkalla is now located in between 2 celestial bodies preventing any light from the system's star to shine through, including having dark storm clouds blotting out the skies. Humidity levels are dropping but so are the temperatures. The weather is very tumultuous around this time of year due to the violent lightning storms that rage almost non-stop during the season. The months of Darkfall are; - Second Harvest (28 days) = time to harvest the second batch of crops. - Flock Leave (28 days) = animals are migrating to the caves to escape the storms and Sky Whales, most notably the reptilian birds of the floating islands. - Axatotq Descent (42 days) = the Sky Whales are flying closer to the ground in search of food. - Silence (14 days) = the storms are slowly going away and the skies are calmer as the light is slowly returning.
