The planet of Arcanus, floating at the edge of Union space. The population thrived peacefully in the different cities and countries that decorated the surface. This planet, amongst many others from the Alliance of Kings half of the Union was magical in origin. The cities were indeed magical: elegantly designed architecture was used to construct tall buildings that loomed over the streets. Lights and lamps glowed yellow and purple and were no doubt, magical in origin. Some buildings populated floating pieces of crust, decorating the skyscape, floating many hundred feet above the ground with no explanation.

The planet, like every other GSU world was surrounded and protected by a network of 50 orbital platforms. Each orbital platform was equipped with a "Super" MAC cannon - a large orbital defense gun that magnetically accelerated a 3000-ton slab of ferric-tungsten with a uranium core at 4% the speed of light (or 12'000km a second) through the use of linear electromagnetic coils. These Super MACs were capable of punching holes through even some of the most heavily shielded warships.

In addition to this, the planet was constantly surrounded, protected and monitored by a large defense fleet, as with every other planet in GSU territory. The defense fleet itself was divided into separate smaller fleets that orbited the planet at equal distances, ensuring that the planet was completely surrounded. There were 12 fleets in total. Each fleet consisted of 6 Thor-Class Destroyers and 12 Aurora-Class Frigates.

On the surface itself, each country had its own major military stronghold. Each stronghold was located in the rural areas of each country that housed and trained Colonial Marines as well as Mages that practiced and perfected their skills in Arcane Magic. A standard military complex would be a collection of buildings ranging from barracks to vehicle depots, airpads and supply pads that surrounded one central communication tower. These buildings were surrounded by a circular wall of solid titanium 30 feet high. Embedded in this wall was a collection of tunnels and bunkers from which guards kept a watchful eye on the field expanding beyond the wall. The bunkers included weapon placements such as machinegun turrets that fired explosive shells, as well as mortar cannons embedded into the wall.

High inquisitor Filib MacNill crouched in the treeline outside of the enemy base, under the cover of darkness. They had been tasked with causing as much havoc as they could, and he would be damned if some military base could stop him. His squad collectively carried enough explosives to demolish buildings inside. Where the GSU had numbers, they had skill.

Martinez, Flanagan, and Mournwood carried Devotion plasma shields, Spitfire SMGs,  along with their sidearms and their unmarked standard issue witchhunter Dawn class body armor. Initiate Asher and himself had devotion calss shields as well, but rather than Spitfires, they had the state of the art STG.66 assault rifles. Asher had his standard issue MK40, while MacNill had the modified MK40B. Between them, they had grappling hooks and equipment to scale the wall.

"Alright, stay out of the spotlights, don't engage unless you're spotted, and do not fire until I give the order. Let's move." The broke out into a roadie run, making sure that the spotlights were never on them, careful to not be spotted. They stacked up below the wall, crouched, ready to pounce. 

"Martinez, see anywhere with less guards?"

The titanium wall's embedded bunkers were patrolled completely by Colonial Marines. A few of them patrolled the network of corridors inside the wall, making sure they were clear of intruders while most of them stood guard at designated posts in sniping positions. Each patrolling guard was carrying a Nightingale Plasma Rifle and an Inquisitor Shotgun on his person with an Executor pistol as their sidearm.

The snipers were instead armed with Thunderbolt Sniper Rifles with a Nightingale Plasma Rifle as their secondary and also an Executor sidearm.
"Huh, strange." One of them said over the radio.
"What?" Another replied.
"Thought I saw something move down there. Think we could get a team down there to check it out?"
"Movement? You're sure?"
"Well-oh shit. There it is again! I've got eyed on target... wait nevermind. It was just a squirrel. False alarm."
"....you fucking idiot."
"Hey, up yours."

MacNill waited patiently as Martinez examined the wall. "That's a negative, but they have patrols rather than set guards in many places. We can probably get up between rounds, but only barely. Or we can throw some explosives into a bunker and clear it out for infiltration. Up to you, Inquisitor."

He thought for a moment. "We'll bomb a bunker. Get the grapples ready, we throw as soon as we detonate. We'll have to scale fast, since as soon as the find out where we are it's going to be a hail of gunfire."

MacNill took out a small explosive charge, and then another, lobbing them up into the bunker above as his squad got ready. He detonated them, slinging his own grappling hook up into the bunker. "Shields over your heads, watch for snipers. Move!" And with that, they began to climb.

"Enemy contact, East side! East side!"

A few patrolling marines had perished in the explosion, however it drew the attention of pretty much everyone else. Marines that were patrolling nearby rushed towards the point of explosions and examined the area.
"What the hell did this?"
"Unknown, keep your eyes peeled! Got anything Snoozleberry?"

The marine sniper examined the point of explosion and then surveyed the area around it. "Nothing below, seems like they may have taken cover underneath the foliage. Hold on." He activated the Thunderbolt Sniper Rifle's scope's night vision and as soon as he did so, he spotted the glowing targets scaling the wall a few meters away from the explosion.
"Contact! They're climbing the wall! Uploading navigation markers now!"

Within seconds, every single marine in the vicinity received the nav marker on their HUDs and they now knew exactly where the enemy was. A few of them rushed into position and opened fire with their Nightingale Plasma Rifles. Each bolt fired was a compressed ball of plasma shaped and guided by a magnetic field. Upon impact, the magnetic field encapsulating the plasma would collapse and explosively release the plasma akin to a miniature plasma grenade explosion.

Meanwhile, Snoozelberry, the sniper, took aim with his Thunderbolt at one of the men climbing and fired off a shot. The projectile was magnetically accelerated by a row of electromagnetic coils lining the barrel of the gun, which shot the projectile out at a speed of 12'000 meters a second. It carried enough kinetic energy to shatter concrete targets on impact.

Very soon, the Reich special forces teams came under fire, and their plasma shields ignited, blocking the plasma shots with efficiency. The explosions knocked them around a bit, but it helped them more than harm them, as it made them a harder target to hit as more plasma whizzed by.

Asher let out a cry as the coilgun's projectile tossed him to the side, hitting the wall, and leaving him dangling by his rope. He quickly got back to climbing, screaming as he drew his MK40 slag handgun, firing at the sniper as he continued to ascend.

"You entitled GSU assbag prick! Why don't you come fight me, manno-a-manno, jackass?"

meanwhile, Martinez, Mournwood, and Flanagan fired up at the marines with their SMGs, hopeing to drop a few as they ascended. MacNill pulled himself into the bunker, crouching with his shield up, ready to face the enemy.

Since the sniper was a long distance from Asher, his pistol shots at him were in vain - and he had just made himself a bigger target now. Snoozelberry took aim at Asher and fired multiple times, hoping one of the shots would put him down.

Meanwhile, the sudden retaliation from the climbing party's SMG's prompted some of the marines to withdraw back into their bunkers, but some of the others off to the side continued to fire at them with their Nightingales.

The first Colonial Marine happened to be only three meters away from where MacNill climbed in and in response, switched to his Inquisitor Shotgun and rushed to meet the man in CQC. He took aim and pulled the trigger and the weapon fired a medium-range burst of energised particles, capable of completely disintegrating a normal human being but also delivering a powerful knock-back effect to anything that may have survived.

After this shot, the marine would quickly move to retreat to allow his comrades a few meters behind him a clear line of sight down the corridor, where they'd open fire with their Nightingale plasma rifles.

With plasma fire still raining down on the scaling hunters, they were still a hard target, and most of the shots from the sniper's rounds missed. One, however, clipped his side, tearing a bit of flesh off. He let out a cry of pain, hoisting himself up behind Martinez.

As MacNill crouched, his rifle drawn, he fired on the man immediately, dropping the man to the ground as his shotgun fired off randomly, pelting his shield. It glowed a dangerous color before MacNill turned it off, venting the battery as he moved back behind the now advancing Martinez, her shield still active as she opened fire with her Spitfire.

Behind the three, Flanagan and Mournwood sat precariously on the edge, waiting for their squadmates to push forward, and when they did, the two hunters climbed inside, activating their shields and flanking Martinez, forming a wall which Asher and MacNill fired from.

A few Colonial Marines went down after getting hit a few times from the special operations squad's weapons. The remainder in the corridor took cover to re-evaluate the situation.

"They got shields..."
"I can see that, plasma doesn't seem to take any effect."
"Switch to ballistics."

Two of the marines switched to their Executor sidearms, emerged from cover and began to rapid-fire explosive projectiles, enough to blow small chunks off concrete, at the shielded targets. Meanwhile one of the marines prepared a fragmentation grenade. He unclipped it from his belt, hit the fuse and lobbed it at the squad.

"Get back!"
The marines in the corridor ceased firing and scrambled to move as far away as possible from the explosion. The resulting explosion would, regardless of whether it affected the special ops team or not, cause substantial damage to the corridors for about 5 meters.

The Reich special forces troops reloaded their weapons, and MacNill vented the excess energy from his shield. They waited quietly, shield wall taking up the length of the hallway. They could hear the muted chatter of the marines. They popped out of cover, now firing their sidearms. Mournwood took a hit to his shield arm, but they were mostly unharmed as they force the Marines back.

The grenade bounced along the ground as Asher let out a shout. "Eat shit you GSU bastards!" he shouted, running forward and punting the grenade down the hallway, raising his shield and backing up as it exploded, dealing exponential damage to the hallway. The shield wall advanced,firing into the dust as MacNill and Asher began lobbing armed explosives into the compound from the newly formed hole.

As the team entered into the network of bunkers, the snipers lost their lines of sight and as such, some broke off from their posts to back up their comrades inside. The grenade thrown by one of the spec ops soldiers successfully took out the soldiers firing at them, clearing a way for them to proceed.

Meanwhile other marines in different parts of the wall were alerted to the need of reinforcements near the blast zone and began to mobilize, however it would take a few minutes for them to arrive which gave the team time-limited window to proceed.
