The universe is a big place. From the Milky Way to the furthest reaches of space numerous civilisations have arisen and fallen some in a spectacular fashion others in a bloody orgy of violence and death. It is on one of these distant star systems, so distant that by the time the rest of the galaxy became aware their was nothing but majestic ruins hinting at some fallen glory, that our story begins. As one may not expect Saryn's story in fact begins with her father a leading scientist of a race whose name is known only to Saryn a name she so far refuses to share. Saryn's father was a man known as Allgolus and he lead a happy life with his wife and daughter. In the day he would show up to work furthering his people's scientific mastery and in the evenings spending time with his family.
He was such a successful, and indeed rich, member of society that he arranged for his family to move to a brand new house on a much more pleasant planet. You know those people that wish of owning a great big house with a fantastic view surrounded by glorious scenery? For Allgolus and his family that dream was about to become reality...if only it did not turn into a nightmare. Allgolus arrived before his family having been forced to take a different vessel and was concerned to discover the vessel his family were on happened to be three days late but this had happened before. Other vessels had been delayed in transit as bending space together was not always an easy thing to do. At first logic kept Allgolus but as time ticked on his worries came to the fore. For a month his concerns sat brooding lodged deeply in his stomach until..finally his family's ship arrived.
At first things looked perfectly fine with the vessel. It had power, the lights were running and the A.I controlling it as fully operational guiding the vessel into a holding pattern above the destination planet. Of course it was only when flight control attempted to raise the vessel that things started going south. There was no response from the crew a troubling sign and as per protocol a fireteam was assembled to board the vessel. Perhaps it was just a simple communications malfunction? Or some other form of technical issue? The fireteam were assembled for precisely that reason and easily boarded the ship. As they explored those gleaming halls they did not discover people waiting to meet them. Instead what they found was infestation, sickness, madness and mutation. As the fireteam advanced deeper they found themselves assaulted by the crew now maddened and twisted into horrific amalgamation of Caldous (their race for the interested) and something else. This something else would eventually be discovered to be fungal in nature yet displaying disturbing similarities to the DNA of the Caldous they had infected.
Of course frenzied beasts were no match for the military technology of the Caldous and so with plasma, fire and fury they purged the vessel descending to its heart where they found a gruesome sight: Allgolus' daughter. She had been the first victim and out of her body grew a massive fungal growth belching spores which fortunately the fireteam's armour protected them from. The beast that had grown from Allgolus' daughter was slain and the vessel was sealed taken to the planet's scientific facility for quarantine. Of course this news did in fact shake Allgolus that both his wife and daughter had died having fallen victim to some newly discovered infection and of course he sunk into depression. At first he tried to bury himself in work to try and grieve but that did little to assist. Of course while this was occurring other interested parties, namely the Caldous' health branch of the government, studied the infection hoping to develop a cure for it but as things went on it soon became clear this was FAR more than a mere virus or bacteria. It was alive, in a sense, a living organism similar to fungus but displaying self-replication and survivability found only in bacteria.
Sadly this immensely hostile lifeform proved far beyond the abilities of any normal doctor to deal with and given the discovery of how it replicated the genetic code of the infected the CHA (Caldous' health association) had to call in a specialist: of course the only specialist on the planet at that time was Allgolus. At first there was much arguing and many high ranking officials of the CHA outright refused to allow Allgolus access to the corpse of his daughter but at the end of the day he was the only sufficiently knowledgeable scientist close enough unless they wished to wait for four months at the very least. Of course Allgolus definitely wanted in. He wanted to find a cure to the thing that had killed his family it was after all the only form of vengeance he would get. You can't make a viral fungal like lifeform understand who it had killed nor the significance behind their lives. It was after all simply an unintelligent, if aggressive, fungus that merely killed and multiplied. Oh but how very wrong they all were....Oh yes they were all immensely wrong and it was Allgolus himself that would prove himself, and many others, wrong.
As he studied the corpse of his daughter and the thing that killed her Allgolus discovered something disturbing and interesting: Despite the fact his daughter's body was dead along with the infested mass...her brain was not in fact inert. It was still active producing electrons and disturbingly enough responding to outside stimuli. If that wasn't creepy enough, as it did technically mean his daughter's brain was alive and conscious, he discovered the genetic code of the infected growth was 85% similar to that of his daughter's DNA. It was then that he thought up a crazed idea.....one so unethical and crazy it might just work: her force this infestation to grow into a copy of his deceased daughter's body through genetic manipulation then perform a brain transplant. Cloning was a subject matter he had worked on many times before and he had been a surgeon in his younger years so performing the surgery in secret was easy. Of course keeping it a massive secret was not. Luckily enough he was the head of the project and so could easily smuggle samples out.
Alongside forming a cure for the infection he created a mostly perfect clone of his daughter, other than the cat like eyes and scaled growths around said eyes, and so came the difficult bit: the surgery. He was able to successfully smuggle the brain of his daughter out and, after a very risky surgery, transplanted it into the replacement body. Perhaps in his deranged grief struck mind Allgolus though he would get his daughter back but what he got instead was Saryn..so named after the virus' offical designation of S4-RYN. At first Allgolus thought he had his daughter back as indeed his creation did have all of her memories even referring to her as father but alas the illusion was shattered. Saryn, as she had chosen to name herself, revealed that despite her being similar to his daughter and possessing her memories she was not in but despite that she viewed Allgolus as her father. At first the relationship was not easy, especially with Saryn possessing a persona she did not fully understand, but with time and effort Saryn eventually formed a good relationship with her creator.
Sadly as she aged the state of the Caldous' race as a whole began to deteriorate. Civil war had broken out splitting the race down the middle. Feeling a sense of responsibility and a desire to protect her father Saryn expressed her desire to sign up and fight. At first Allgolus refused to allow it but Saryn was stubborn and determined. She made it highly clear she would step up as a citizen and do her duty as any "decent" member of society should. Realising how futile trying to stand in the way of his adoptive daughter was Allgolus decided the least he could do is help her. He called in numerous favours and expended a lot of money, luckily he was a very rich man, and got his daughter the best training he could find. So good that by the time she actually signed up to join the war effort Saryn was not only a first rate recruit she was also a prime candidate for a medical role. After all her father had spent a VERY long time, roughly one hundred years since her "creation", teaching his creation everything he knew. As such she was fast tracked into the role of a field medic.
It was during her years in this war that Saryn did in fact fall in love and ended up getting married. The high point of her existence was in fact this military life she know lead. She was married, had a loving parent, numerous friends and a successful career. Returning to the subject of the war her faction were in fact winning inching ever closer to victory however that was when the separatist faction release a deadly bio-weapon one Saryn had a great familiarity with: The S4-RYN. At first it seemed the separatists were desperate releasing an infection that was easily curable but as the first targets were infected and the bio-weapon spread it soon became clear the separatists had performed their own modifications. As planets fell to the infection the Caldous government panicked unaware of what to do so they turned to the only expert on it: Allgolus. He did indeed work to try and find a way to counter this new bioweapon but to no avail. Instead it was Saryn who through a great amount of daring willingly exposed herself to infection (which is where the majority of her "powers" come from nowadays) for the sake of finding a cure. Instead of being consumed by the new strain of S4-RYN she bonded with it being forever altered but it was the greater good.
Armed with this new sample and Saryn's abilities Allgolus began making rapid progress on a cure which is when that happened. The grand betrayal and the destruction of everything Saryn held dear.. Who was the betrayer you ask? Why it was the one man she had fallen in love with: her husband. At first it seemed like just another day at her father's research facility but then fire burst out, explosions tore through the facility as separatist forces forced their way in. For all her skill, all her fighting and all the effort she put in Saryn's efforts amounted to nothing. Her father was killed, her friends murdered and the cure they had been so close to finishing was destroyed. If that was not bad enough other betrayers among the Caldous government activated killing military commanders, political leaders and other important targets. It was enough to spell doom for the Caldous as without a central command and with no hope for a cure the Caldous were defeated by their separatist enemies. Of course if the separatists believed things would end here they were wrong.
The infection turned on the ones who had unleashed them shattering the Separatists and ringing the death bell for the Caldous as a race. Their people were gone, their lands destroyed and the entirety of the civilisation eradicated....except for Saryn and her husband. You see her husband, possessed by some form of madness, had secretly desired the total eradication of his own race and gone into hibernation fleeing to some distant star system where he no doubtingly would work towards some-other goal. Saryn, consumed by rage and a desire for vengeance, has followed that man through space dogging him at every turn. It has been thousands of years since then as, alas, her vessel was incapable of warp transit. In fact only recently has she actually even gotten close to the star systems occupied by other sentient species. Of course now that she has managed to find her former lover Saryn has begun hunting for him more intensely. Thousands of years of bitterness and a lust for vengeance are ready to be unleashed now.....woe betide her treasonous husband when she finds him.
The first people she happened to stumble upon, although perhaps a better word would be to say found, were members of the Immortals and immediately Saryn saw an opportunity. Whoever these immortal fellows were they must have been very well established with a rather large amount of influence. Hoping the Immortals would be able to assist her in searching for revenge Saryn arranged to join their little faction which brings us perfectly up to date. In fact Saryn has just landed on one of the Immortal owned planets patiently awaiting the arrival of the faction's representative. She had waited thousands of years in a dream like state and as such there was no issue waiting a few more hours. Time and patience was the one thing she had in bucketfuls. Being long lived did indeed have its advantages especially now when she was finally getting closer to her target.
