History
As the daughter of Rear Admiral Melz Akeim, Raylene was born directly into The Nypherian Empire with a substantial reputation to follow. Not able to grow up in the fleets with her mother, Raylene was sent to Chyke to grow up amongst foster parents, with only very brief and sparse visits with her mother. She didn't particularly take a liking to other children and instead filled the lonely void with a rapidly growing interest in Nypherian technology, cybernetics and software. She familiarized herself with anything she could get her hands on, becoming a quick learner of new technologies and rapidly growing adept in many different corners of Nypherian tech, even going so far as to break down for their components and begin building her own devices. She became a prodigy child for Nypherian tech and used her skills to 'acquire' more tech for her to tinker with.

Once Raylene was of age to join The Nypherian Empire's efforts, she started to set about walking in her mother's footsteps. Raylene wasn't exactly amazing at being a soldier, though her intelligence and familiarity with software and tech landed her a spot as an officer. She was augmented with implants to boost her intelligence, focus, memory, mental processing ability and speed, as well as augmented to be able to access the Nypherian Code Network, which was particularly fascinating to Raylene. Her job was to relay information between troops and squads, and while it was rewarding at first, it quickly became unfulfilling and tiresome for Raylene. She needed to have her intelligence and abilities challenged and it wasn't quite happening here.

Despite this, Raylene persisted with the daily grind, for two reasons. One was her almost patriotic desire to serve the Empire under and do her Mother proud, though the second and more important reason was that Raylene knew that quitting meant she would be cut from the Code Network. Being connected to all of the thoughts of everyone else on the network, past and present, as well as access to all Nypherian technology was an incredibly intoxicating drug-like addiction; one that Raylene couldn't possibly give up, even as the long days of going nowhere turned into months and years...

Her potential was being wasted here. There had to be another option.
