The Dark Elves of Morrowind have a natural gift for destruction magic, specifically with the element of fire.

Due to their affinity to fire, the Dunmer are especially weak against water and ice magic.

The Dunmer live in a house based society. If you're not part of one of the five great houses of House Redoran, House Telvanni, House Hlaalu, House Indoril, and House Dres, or at least linked to them in some way, you might as well be a nobody to those in the upper class.

Originally, the Dunmer were actually part of the Altmer race. Due to following many deities that the Altmer didn't agree with, they were cursed by High Elf wizards who were part of the Aldmeri Dominion and became the grey skinned Dark Elves before being exiled to Morrowind.
