Tools:
In order to cast more powerful magic, Wizards must first create the correct tools for the job. Many learn to make wands or staffs as their first tools, and as such, these become the basic tool upon which they create all other tools. A wand or staff symbolizes the Wizard’s ability to manipulate mana and allows the wizard a much more powerful and finer control over its energy. For more specialized spells, however, a wizard must create a tool for that specific purpose, such as flight.

Elias has two basic tools he can create for the manipulation of magic, referred to collectively as foci and singularly as focus. The more basic focus is the wand, while the more powerful focus is the staff. However, due to the simplistic and general nature of foci, no two are created equal.

Based on the level of complexity and ingredients, a focus can be created specifically to amplify a certain magic to a larger degree than a “normal” focus. Additionally, no two tools are created the same. Depending on the materials used and the complexity of the a focus. For example: A focus made out of ancient oak will always be more complex than one made out of a broomstick. Though a significantly more powerful or experienced wizard with a broomstick will be able to defeat a weaker or significantly less experienced one with ancient oak.

The Wand: The wand is widely considered by earth based wizards to be nothing more than a tool of self defense. It’s a very simple tool that allows magic users to amplify their basic elemental manipulation as well as granting them the ability to manipulate Lightning, Light, Dark, Pure Mana, and any basic skills of any field of magic the wizard has experience in. Though wands are generally used as tools of self defense, they can be used to cast many small and convenient spells or enchantments.

The Staff: The staff is the symbol of the wizard. Although a staff is always uniquely made, many serve the same purpose: further amplify the Wizard’s power and serve as a centerpiece for powerful spells and rituals. With a staff, a wizard can conjure up waves of fire, drown enemies in water, or even temporarily summon a small thunderstorm. In addition to amplifying a wizard’s power, it allows a wizard to not only cast powerful spells in many different schools, but he can even combine elements if he has developed the correct spell.

Chalk: Or any other writing utensil that stick around for a bit. These can be used to write runes that can have any number of special effects. Traps, translation, wards. You name it. Runes can be erased after they’re finished, but if the caster chooses, the magic can still remain.

Amulets: Basically any tool charged with a specific spell. Amulets are longer lasting than runes and can use far more powerful and specialized spells than a wand or staff. The only real drawback, however, is the fact that amulets are limited to whatever spell or ability they’ve been charged with, and using them constantly is a drain on the wizard using it, though it requires less focus and energy than casting a similar spell from a wand or staff.
