Weaknesses
In his normal human form, Gavin is just as susceptible to harm as any other human is. However due to his Ghost Rider counterpart within him, his durability far surpasses that of normal humans. While Gavin can be knocked out and injured just as easily as a normal human can, he can't be killed off as easily due to the cosmic entity; Zarathos, within him.
Gavin can sometimes lose control over his Ghost Rider persona and occasionally goes mad and berserk with power. This also hinders his judgement of the battlefield situation which can leave him vulnerable to exploitation.
Lastly, despite his Ghost Rider form's virtual immunity to any mortal attacks, Gavin can still be knocked out if a powerful enough strike was delivered onto him. Furthermore, the only things he CAN be harmed by in his Ghost Rider form are strong magic attacks or red cosmic energy.

History
From birth, Gavin lead a relatively simple and easy life for a toddler. He had kind loving parents, his family had a middle class status and life seemed to be devoid of any problems or threats whatsoever.
One day, at the age of seven, Gavin was on his way to school, sat in the backseat of his father's SUV with his mother in the passenger seat. As they dropped him off and waved him goodbye, Gavin took one final glance back at his loving parents, before a large truck slammed into the vehicle. An hour later with the police and ambulance on the scene, it was found out that the truck driver had actually died prior to the crash. The perpetrator was never captured and he was now an orphan.
Over the course of his childhood and later his teen years, Gavin grew up to be a rebellious child. Quickly kicked out of his school and then, abandoned by his foster parents at a boarding school, Gavin excelled in one thing only: Instigating violence. Leaving the school with a mere passing grade in engineering, Gavin began to engage in criminal activity, which eventually landed him in jail for two years. After his release, he barely found a job and made a decent income repairing motor vehicles which allowed him to afford a small apartment.
His life once again took a turn when he ran into his childhood friend: Nancy. The two grew attached over the course of a few weeks, visiting and meeting each other often, until the cosmic entity, Mephistopheles appeared to him one night to and used its powers to awaken something within him. Overnight, Gavin transformed into a terrifying spirit of vengeance: the Ghost Rider. By night, he was the demon's bounty hunter as a monster, doing Mephistopheles bidding while by day he struggled to maintain his normal life and his growing relationship with Nancy. Eventually through sheer willpower alone, Gavin broke free of Mephistopheles control and fought back, uncovering a diabolical plan in the process. In what he thought would be his final confrontation with Mephistopheles, Gavin managed to foil his plans and banish him from Earth, however at the cost of the life of Nancy.
Gavin moved on with his life, working hard to get over his depression. Almost a year had gone by before he ran into a team of heroes: the vampire-human hybrid Kittiana Calypso Youngblood who he would eventually come to view as an older sister, the human super soldier Aaron and as he joined the team, he met many other persons over the course of their adventures together. From fighting against Armageddon to prevent the annihilation of Earth, to disrupting the schemes of Richard Benedict and the vampire Elder Draetheus, briefly running into Mephistopheles again as well as a counterpart to his Ghost Rider form, and putting an end to the war between Lycans and Vampires in another dimension. The Battle of Haven was another turning point for Gavin where he stood with his friends and the United Nations Space Command against an alien army. The end of this battle saw the deaths of Kittiana, Aaron and many others he had grown close to.
Five years later, Gavin worked with the super soldier Sebastian and his Fireteam to honour Kittiana's final wish which was to locate her long-lost sister; Diana. All the while, a greater threat lurked on the horizon as the Celestial Nozdormu, the Starforger, rebelled against his kind and triggered the Convergence. He proceeded to join with Sebastian, a revived Kitty, a galactic bounty hunter known to them as the Freelancer, and the Almis siblings to fight back and eventually defeat the Starforger before returning home to Earth.
Not long after however, tensions rose on Earth. Political tensions arose on the status of Supernaturals living among the Humans, with many leaders supporting the notion that all Supernaturals should be put under high-level surveillance constantly, in light of all the Supernatural-related threats Humanity has had to face for centuries. A series of terrorist attacks, allegedly by Supernaturals, took place that worsened the situation. A terrorist plot was uncovered that lead the investigation to the Knight's Initiative Academy. An order was sent out for the Academy to be shut down and all the students detained. Gavin however took part in rescuing the students and transferring them somewhere off the grid. It was then declared that due to the rise in attacks, all Supernaturals were to be detained across Human-occupied space, where they will be transferred to detention stations in space until further notice.
Having already discovered hints of ONI's plan to capture and detain all supernaturals years earlier, deduced that they were behind the whole thing. He then joined with Diana, Mizol, Silas, Solaris and Gelinda to infiltrate an ONI facility and retrieve information relating to the attacks and discovered that they had indeed caused the attacks and framed it on the Supernaturals. Sebastian soon arrived with his team and extracted the group on a stolen dropship. Eventually the evidence was revealed in a court-case and Supernaturals were released after Gavin handed the information over to Admiral Yusuf.
