The UEG (Unified Earth Government) is the central civilian government that administers Earth and her colonies throughout the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. The UEG encompasses the Colonial Administration Authority (CAA), the United Nations (UN) and the United Nations Space Command (UNSC).


HISTORY:

The UEG traces its origins during the early days of human expansion and colonisation in the late 21st century. The organization was originally created by the United Nations in 2075 as an assembly of political leaders and brilliant minds and tasked with attempting to avert the crises of the next century by solving governmental unification issues of colonizing non-Earth territories.

As tension between the Inner and Outer Colonies increased in the late 25th century, the UEG increased the UNSC's presence in the Outer Colonies . However this led to increased aggression from the Outer Colonies which lead to the Insurrection. Although the civil war largely remained in the Outer Colonies, major Inner Colonies like Reach were wracked by Insurrectionist activity throughout the early 26th century.

With the beginning of the Human-Covenant War in February 2525 and the Covenant's systematic annihilation of the Outer Colonies, the UNSC became humanity's greatest protector against the genocidal threat. The UNSC thus overrode the civilian rule of the UEG and established itself as an emergency military government, with the military becoming humanity's primary government.
Although the Unified Earth Government was more open to stepping down in this time of crisis, the Colonial Administration Authority resisted the UNSC's drastic rise in power. It was subsequently stripped of its power and influence.

By January 8 2553, the Unified Earth Government formally regained its power back from the UNSC. A new President also took office at the UEG. She called for a new era of peace, progressiveness, and rebuilding in the wake of the Covenant War. The UEG and UNSC moved to retake several colonies that had been abandoned during the war, while others were reterraformed. With the UEG stretched it afforded greater autonomy to the megacorporations – approving militarization of their security forces and greater exploitation of colonial subsidiaries in the name of stability and reconstruction. n the years following the war the UEG was involved in irregular against resurgent human insurgencies, Covenant splinter groups, and, in July 2557, the Ur-Didact and his armies of Forerunner Promethean constructs.

In the following months, the UEG were forced to deal with the issues of multiple upsrisings in supernatural activity. By late 2553, Earth had become the battleground of multiple invasions and engagements from the demon Armageddon and his Apocalypse army. Aversion of these invasions were successful thanks to joint UNSC-supernatural operations which itself spawned its own group authorised by the UNSC, headed by Spartan Aaron-157. This group went on to avert multiple other attacks from supernaturals such as Draetheus, the Scorpio Insurrectionist faction and a major Covenant Splinter group led by Rha 'Mantakree.

By 2563, the UEG allegedly authorised the systematic capture and detention of supernaturals all over Earth, allowing ONI (the intelligence agency of the UNSC) to take them into protective custody in light of civil unrest regarding coexistence of supernaturals.

GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS


The UEG is a representative democracy headed by a President. The government maintains legislative, executive and judicial branches. The United Earth Government Senate serves as the legislative branch. Among the known executive officer positions to exist are the Minister of Information, Secretary of Defence and Minister of Colonies which is likely part of the Colonial Administration Authority. The Internal Revenue Service has branched out from Earth and now covers all of its colonies. It operates under the Department of Treasury. The Inner Territories Transportation Administration covers interstellar travel of civilians between the Inner Colonies.

The Colonial Administration Authority administers the various colonies belonging to the UEG. The government branch keeps files and details of every known colony in something known as the "Factbook". While the CAA was stripped of most of its power during the Human-Covenant War, as of 2558 the CAA is still operational in some form. The UN had also been absorbed into the UEG and its role had been reduced to mediating administrative tasks between Earth's various governments.

FOREIGN RELATIONS


Some Outer Colonies maintain tense relations with the UEG, mostly because some felt abandoned during the Human-Covenant war. A number of Outer Colonies went so far as to denounce the UEG entirely and became completely independent.
As of 2553, the UEG maintains friendly relations with Sangheilios - homeworld of the Sangheili. The Swords of Sangheilios faction abandoned the Covenant during the final days of the war and aided in the Humans' victory at the end. The truce as of yet remains unbroken.

ECONOMY


The UEG uses the United Nations Credit (cR) to organise its economic stability by buying or selling military equipment or weapons and shipping costs, etc. For transporting food and raw materials between colonies, the UEG uses a Merchant Navy run by the Department of Commercial Shipping. Trade between colonies is maintained by the Trade Alliance. While Inner Colonies serve as military strongholds and ship-building yards, Outer Colonies provide agriculture in a system that goes hand-in-hand between the two groups of Colonies. 

MILITARY


The United Nations Space Command (UNSC) is the primary military, exploratory and scientific arm of the UEG. It includes various special forces and militia groups but the primary ones are: Marine Corps, Army, Air Force and the recently formed Spartan Branch. The UNSC maintains a number of scientific organisations such as UNSC Astrophysics. UNSC Engineering is in charge of surveying viable planets for terraforming and colonisation.
