Development Threads:
Name: S'ine
Homeplanet: Ci'Zue
Sentience: Sentient
Strengths:
Their strengths are being able to withstand radiation and they are high temperature resistant. They are tough and do not flee for their environment easily, for example, they have a retractable nictitating membrane around their eyes to protect vision loss during sandstorms and strong senses. Their culture is very structured. During the evolution, the S'ine also gained an unique relation with sand, and to some it opened the ability to use sand magic, to aid their survival as a whole. S'ine have native jungle camouflage.
Weaknesses:
Very dependent on their values and on their way of live. Many S'ine have some sort of a tunnel vision that they find very hard to let go. Most S`ine mate for live, and reproduce very slow. This is possible due to their relative save environment. They are not capable of developing mutations since they have been evolving for so long they have lost the ability to evolve. Instead they rely on a small population of gifted S'ine. Those who develop the gifts of sand are unable to withstand termokinetic related damage for it turns them temporarily into unbreakable glass.
Appearance:
Fairly small, generally around 1,60 meter high and 50 kilograms heavy. Males an females look very similar with cloths on, and are barely separable form one another except for their weak smell differences. S'ine have pointy elf like ears and are not capable of developing big muscles. They are very human like except that they have a retractable nictitating membrane around their eyes to protect vision loss during sandstorms.
Their hair is straight white and can reach very long lengths. Often worn in countless dread lock style braids with heavy jewelry attached to the bottom of each bundled hair string. Similar as hair, also the skin is paper white and totally flawless. Eye colors can be found in white to dark gray tints. The reason for being completely white is the white jungle flora of the southern hemisphere of their planet. It serves as camouflage. What stands out is the skin, because of the very nature related complexity, capable of absorbing radiation and prevents sun burning of the skin. S'ine pigment does not change wilts being exposed to sun/star light.
S'ine mate for live, and often reach sexual maturity at the earth age of 30. They can live for approximately 160 earth years under normal circumstances without loosing their youth like looks, even though they are blessed with longevity, it is rare to reach the earth age of 40 due to violence in most cultural environments of the S'ine.. The lungs of the S'ine are adapted to breath toxic air with a high CO percentage. The air is so toxic because almost all plants are found on the dark side of the globe, resulting in less O2 generation due to the low photosyntesis.
Very few S'ine (around 1%) are born with the power to connect with sand. Often it ends there, but some are however more powerful and scouted along with others to become a sand priest.. They take up a special place in their society.
Culture:
Their religion is based on their binary stars. They believe that it are their gods, C'ara-tok and C'are-dar are the binary stars holding their world together. A more closer read can be found in the planet lore in the codex. Due to their religion they became very bloody and cruel to their own kind. It made options like mummification attractive and it plays a major part in their day to day life. People with power often choose to let themselves being mummified alive ones they reach certain marks in life. Their culture is highly analytical and often predicts trough social codes when someone 'needs' to be mummified.
Slave class: p'lka
Slaves consist out of 70% of the total population. It is an inherited 'gift' from the gods to serve your master. Upon reaching the loyal age of 40 earth years they are being mass executed, this happens ones a earth year during the Festival of the forgotten. Also known as the ta'ti-ce.
Common class: p'lwa
The common class consists out of 20% of the population and is the working class of the S'ine culture, consisting out of all modern professions that people with not so modern tools could perform. Farmers, slave traders, lawyers, teachers, masons, researchers, etc. The common class is inherited and is used to sacrifice ones every 50 earth years a relative to the gods. They bury their dead in mass graveyards in the desert. This ritual is known as the Za'k-Uhm ritual.
Rich class: p'lca
The rich people make up 5% of the population S'ine, and are often, as family, rulers of small city areas or organisations. Their status is not based on blood but on raw economical power as family. Those that are allowed to work for the government use deadly high caliber guns to suppress all opposition. Executioners, common mummification binders, and artists are also found in this class. They are like the common class subject to the Za'k-Uhm ritual. Very few can afford to be buried on a graveyard instead of a mass grave.
Noble class: p'lra
The nobility makes up 4% of the population, and are known for their rule of large plots of land. They only answer to their King and Queen. Nobles know only one rank in their class, that of noble. People are born in this class and often own large fortifications or castles, and often have function aboard space ships, being able to see more from the galaxy. There are in total 73 noble houses spread over various of locations. Each house has their own logo and specialized craft on which they hold a monopoly. Like the common class they are subject to the Za'k-Uhm ritual, but are buried in a secret crypt within the La'a. The nobility is subject to criminal law, and may request for live-mummification under certain conditions.
Monarchy class: p'lha-O
The monarchy class makes up of 0,5% of the population, consisting out the three royal families, their servants, royal guard, temple guard, castle guard, the council and the court. They are subject to no one but the King and Queen. They rule the nobility with firm and absolute hand. For unknown reasons the monarchy class is not subject to criminal law but is subject to the same Za'K-Uhm conditions as other nobility, except the monarchs are buried in the secret royal crypts of La'a and are subject to the games of dawn. Secondly, the monarchy play an important role in placing strategy and bets on their priests during the battle of dawn that happens each morning.
Priest class: p'lia-O
The priest class consist out of 0,49% of the population and wields exclusively sand magic users. Without doubt can be said that they are not bound to either criminal law or Za'K-Uhm and bury their dead in the secret crypts of La'a that they also have sworn to protect. They serve their country by praying to the gods and designing rules. Aside from all that they do, priests are strong writers who make notes of all things that go on in very large secret libraries deep under the ground. They manage to use shade skills to inspect the society for information deemed worthy for their library. Priesters are thus able to use two types of magic. Sand magic, and shade magic. Sand is bound to their environment whilst shade magic is bound to their own will power. Priest are subject to the games of dawn, and may be buried alive and being revived trough intensive rituals. The longer a priest has been buried alive, the higher his status is.
Around 0,01% of the population S'ine is undead. These are high status lich like priests that have been trough countless live burials along with being willingly to give their essence for the betterment of the clergy as a whole. During long and painful rituals they were pushed to form a deep connection with the sand, being able to unlock the gift of transformation at the loss of being crippled outside their natural environment of the sand. The functions are exclusively keepers. Since they need to oversee places for a long time. There are currently three types of keepers: Crypt keepers, key keepers, and the keeper of the rod.
The last one is exclusively helt by the high priest. A high priest is in an unique position for he is the only clergy member who does not receive the conditions of being possibly buried trough the games of dawn, when a high priest passes away, not happened before, he or she is replaced by the first status holder of the priests. The power of the rod must be passed over physically, for else it looses its abilities, without enough power the rod cannot be handled.
