All Varanus technology capable of discharging a projectile of any kind as well as all vehicles and at one point starships had bio-genetic locks that prevented anyone except a Varanus from using it.It became the norm in Imperial technology to add these locks to prevent uprisings from the many "servant" races that made up their lower class. Even today the Varanus Clans still use this technology. The locks consist of special microchips that relay power to the firing mechanism {For weapory} these microchips scan the user's biosignal and if the user is non-Varanus it will lock the firing mechanism to render the weapon useless. Should one tamper with the chip it will initiate a self destruct sequence aimed at overloading the weapon and causing to fry.

Other racials can use the weaponry if they find the means to mimic Varanus DNA signals.
