Please do not use this Species Template to create a Character.
I've had bad experiences opening up my creations to the public, which forced me to keep them off limits for others. Please respect this as I wish to remain in control of my own creations.
Basics Name: The Ananaki [Anan-A-ki] Home Planet: Irkalla [Ir-Kalla] Sentience: Sentient *** Strengths - Spoiler:
- Combat-orientated race; the Ananaki live for the kill. Since the beginning of their time they are
bred to battle, either each other or anything else standing in their way. - Strength; thanks to their muscle and bone density they have developed a supernatural strength.
Able to punch through rock while their lower body strength allows them to jump several feet high. - Heightened Senses; to compensate for their unique type of blindness they have a highly developed sense of smell, hearing, taste, and touch. - Night vision; due to living on a nocturnal planet and the constant exposure to Dark Elementism, their eyes have developed in a way to see perfectly in the dark. - Dark Element manipulation; to use Darkness and Shadows and bend it to their will. An innate ability that they are born with. This magic has weaved itself into their way of life, use of technology, and combat tactics. - Age; the Ananaki have been known by races in a Pre-Convergence Era for their extraordinary long age. Some even called them 'ageless' as they can get well past the hundreds of thousands in numbers. - Cell Regeneration; the ability to heal faster from injuries than others and thus gaining immunity to diseases.
Weaknesses - Spoiler:
- Due to being such a violent species they don't have a lot of ways to express themselves. Open display of affection or showing tears, or any other strong emotion are a sign of weakness within their culture. Which makes foreign relations more difficult to handle. Not to mention that they are slightly xenophobic ever since the Great Collapse. - Sensitive Senses; being able to hear a pin fall in a cavern or smell the slightest of hormonal changes in a person might seem cool but it is also crippling. Loud and sharp noises hurt their ears, and strong or foul odors can make them sick. They also have different taste buds than a human's. - Blind + Color blind; So while they can see perfectly in the dark, the brighter it gets the less they can see. So in a way they suffer from a type of 'day blindness'. But due to evolution they can only see in purple hues/shades with a slight variation of pinks. To aid them to at least determine distances and shapes for when they are 'blind'(when its too bright) they use Echolocation similar to a bat's. - Light Element manipulation; every Yin has its Yang, no further explanation needed I hope. - Despite their long lifespan and rapid healing they are still mortal. - Hunger; due to their cells being in constant overdrive to do its job the Ananaki have a large appetite, even the females. Needing large amounts of food to give their bodies the needed energy and nutrients to keep up. - Cold temperatures; living on a planet that's most hot and humid does create the struggle to adapt to colder environments. - Fertility Crisis; the species has recently suffered from a drop in fertility, less infants are being born with each generation. This has caused some unrest amongst the people. The Ananaki have reached a point where they are slowly asking females to put down their blades and do less dangerous activities. The female population isn't happy that they are starting to lose their independence. - Reputation; reputation is everything to an Ananaki, it's what separates the strong from the weak. And with that their ego and arrogance grow, making them easy bait for challengers.
*** Appearance - Anatomy:
The Ananaki are humanoid in appearance. Both genders have a mesomorph build(athletic),
there are no cases of overweight nor underweight. They walk upright on 2 legs. They have similar organs to a human's if not enlarged due to their sizes. Muscles and bones are denser, making them heavier than they appear but also stronger, even in females. Some facial features (either gender) can appear more pronounced such as the brow and cheekbones. They have thick hair that they keep in braids or dreadlocks of varying lengths and styles. Hair color will never be light or dyed, they only have dark tones. The colors range from shades of black, dark grey, dark purples, dark reds, browns, and dark greens. The most common colors are the blacks and the browns, then the greys, then the reds, then the green and purples. Their ears are slightly pointed(not elven). Their eyes only come in 1 color, purple. The entire eye is purple colored, the pupils are still noticeable however because they appear brighter in color. They have a groove running from ear to ear that connects with the mouth corners. When they speak you can tell that the groove is actually a very stretchy piece of tissue. This combined with the fact that they can open their jaws further than a humans indicated that they are used to eating large prey. A feature they have retained through evolution. Their teeth are long and sharp with microscopic serrated edges to rend flesh and bone alike. Their hands and feet bear black claws, efficiently for tearing flesh and grip when climbing. This is why they wear sandal type shoes. Their skin colors has the same color variety as their hair but come with 4 patterns. Also hair color and skin color can be different from each other. The patterns are; blanks (simple like a human), stripes, spots, and ombre effect. The latter can often be seen in combination with other patterns. But the placement of patterns is not across the entire body. These patterns can be found on the shoulders, upper back, collarbone, outside of the arms, top of the hands, sides of the torso, hips, outside of the thighs. The patterns tend to be darker than the 'core color' of their skin. The colors are; black, browns, dark greys, dark olive green, dark red, and dark purple.
- Sexual Dimorphism:
There aren't that many difference between both genders. Males tend to be bigger than a female, ranging from
6' to 8' tall while the females range from 5'4 to 6'5. As for weight, well obviously the taller ones are heavier but on average it is said that they could weigh about the same as a truck. The females tend to be faster, quicker on their feet than the males because they have less weight to carry with them. But the males then are stronger, hence why there are more males acknowledged to be great warriors than females although they get fair treatment. The females have a more feminine build of course and have breast that can provide milk.
- Physiology:
As stated before the Ananaki have a long and slow lifespan. At 500 years they have the appearance and mentality of a toddler(3-6ish years human).
At 1.000 years they have the appearance and mentality of a tween(8-13ish). At 20.000 years they have the appearance and mentality of a young adult (18+). Once they reach, if they survive, 500.000 years they are considered elders and have the appearance and mentality of a senior adult. But at the age of 1.000.000, which is rare but does happen, they are considered Ancient and pretty much get free reign over whatever they wish to do. Even crimes are ignored, mostly cause their bodies probably can't handle that much violence anymore. Reproduction happens the same way as a human's, physical at least. Mating season happens once every 100 years for 1 year long. Libidos and fertility peaks at that point. A pregnancy lasts about 2.5 years, during that time the female is out of the commission for Hunting and warfare and the focus has shifted to having a successful pregnancy. Thanks to their Cell regeneration they are immune to diseases as the healing ability negates all symptoms diseases bring. Most poisons also have no effect on them because the cells simply repair themselves. All poisons except for 1 kind, paralytic poisons do effect the cells but one will need a very large dose to get them. It has also been discovered that the Ananaki bleed a greyish purple color with a shimmer. Echolocation is created by making deep throat noises and clicking sounds with their tongue and teeth. With this they are able to determine distances and shapes in their immediate environment. The deeper and slower the sounds, the wider the spectrum and range of the sound vibrations. This is to get a layout of the area, rough details, etc... The more high-pitched or faster the clicks, the smaller the range of the vibrations and more narrow that spectrum. This is done to get more detail out of things. This echolocation is inspired by the 'bats' not 'dolphin', this means that their echolocation wont work underwater. Unless the water is dark they are truly blind here. Also since the hearing is muffled and the scent skill is blocked. Both genders tend to have a deep voice with varying frequencies, which isn't a surprise considering that they can growl and roar. When using the Galactic Common language they get an accent like the Khajit from Skyrim. Despite their violent behavior they are intelligent creatures, appearing smarter than they look. After all they did build a civilization with magi-tech and crystal technology. And are advanced enough to reach for the stars. The Ananaki do not require a lot of sleep, about 5-6 hours a day is enough for them. They receive the remainder energy from the amounts of food they eat. They have a strictly carnivorous diet, as was shown by their teeth. They eat meat either cooked or raw. But they do make use of various herbs and spices, even some veggies and fruits to flavor the meat. But those edibles are mostly left ignored on the plate as they do not eat it. They also have different taste buds than a human's. Sweet flavors taste foul to them, Spicy flavors on the other hand are a delicacy. Sour flavors are more of a 'acquired taste', you either like it or you don't. And most plant based foods and starches tend to taste bland to them. For liquids they consume water or blood but there are goopy beverages that they drink, made from crushed bugs and secretions of a snail-like creature. Cannibalism is a common practice and part of their diet. They have a habit of eating their fallen warriors as it is believed to increase ones strength and magical power. Culture
- Architecture:
The structures are inspired by the ancient cultures of earth (Egyptian, Aztec, and Sumerian). The Ananaki used to live in the Savannah's, Swamps, and Jungles of Irkalla but ever since the Great Collapse and the fact that their numbers had dwindled significantly they now live underground. Deep in the massive cave systems of the planet. Their city is located within the depths of the second largest mountain they have. Xiqalqa is the name of their city, where the entire species is gathered as there are only a few thousand of them left since the Convergence. Ruins of previous stony settlements can still be found in the jungles, swamps, and savannah's of Irkalla; completely taken over by nature. The most common building materials used for the city is stone, with some metals here and there. The civilian houses are either carved out of the rock walls or build into a somewhat circular shape. The metals in this case are mostly used for either reinforcements, decoration or magi-tech reasons. The size or decorations of the houses do not indicate importance. It's either designed or personal taste or because there's a large family living there. House interiors are fairly simple, it's just one big room and there's hardly any furniture. Beds and chairs are replaced by animal skins or plant fur (yes...fur from plants). Beds have extra padding for extra comfort. There are weapon racks and shelving units for personal belongings, cooking utensils and such, and more weapons and armors. In the center of the room is the firepit which is used for heat, forging or cooking. Trophies of the hunt or fallen enemies decorate both the interior as the exterior of the house. Houses have very little light, actually the entire city has very little light. The only source comes from the bioluminescent plants that grow on the sides of the cave walls and ceiling, or the fire pits in houses and sector plaza's.
The largest buildings are pyramid shaped of the Aztec variant. These facilities and social hubs are in the center of the city and vary in sizes. Some examples are the healing spa's, water filtration, ship factory, the Hall of Codex, etc...
- Fashion:
Casual wear is mostly worn during their free time or when they have upkeep duty. The males usually tend to stick to sarongs that is worn from the waist down keeping them topless. The females are wearing mostly sarongs that they wear from shoulder down. Scarfs or belts are used to keep the sarongs in place. The colors of the clothes are often ugly mismatches due to them being colorblind. Fabrics that are used in creating these cloths are plant fur, animal skins, or the membranes of the flotation organ in leviathans. Both genders then usually carry a dagger with them with this attire. Jewelry is made from bones, wood, gold, and gems. There's a large variety of them for both genders to use; earrings, necklaces, armbands, wristbands,rings, belly necklaces, and ankle bracelets. Also, jewelry for their dreadlocks. The Ananaki though do not have make-up, nor do they use dyes for hair or body painting. Hair styles are as varied as their imagination allows them. There's even jewelry for hair and headbands.
- Arts and Entertainment:
The Ananaki do not have many ways to express themselves on an emotional level. Pressured to keep their feelings to themselves and rarely showing affection. But they do have ways to express themselves creatively through music.
The instruments they have are only of the percussion type, a great way to get all that excessive energy and aggression out. Their dances are very tribal-like with wild and energetic movements. it is known that the Ananaki can get into a trance from dancing, believing that it allows them to communicate with their ancestral spirits. Story-telling is another favorite pass time. A chance for them to brag about their achievements or to tutor the young about historical events. it is also used to teach the young about tactics and strategy based on war and hunting stories.
Being a predatory race it should be of no surprise that they like to kill for sports. They have actually an arena for games like that, shaped like a coliseum and covered in sands and grass transported from the Savannah. The challengers are faced with either animals or sentient creatures, sometimes the games are made more difficult by adding secondary goals like trying to finish a parkour course, or bringing an object from point A to point B.
- Government:
The Ananaki are tribal in lifestyle and are led by a Council. They are a group of the strongest and oldest warriors that make decisions for the benefit of the Ananaki. The Council can be as large as it wants to be and of either gender. The Ancients automatically get a spot in the Council. Currently there are 4 members leading the Ananaki. Q'dod - the only Ancient currently living. Xurat - the only female at the time. Co'ekl - a stoic warrior who's been leading the Ananaki for a long time now. Maq Ra'im - another strong warrior and the youngest on the Council. The next ranks are the sector leaders called Clan Lords. The city is divided in hexagon sectors, each sector has 1 Clan Lord that passes on the messages and orders from the Council to its people. Each sector is also divided in 2 sub-groups, Hunters and Upkeepers. The Ananaki use a rotation system when it comes to performing tasks. Each group takes turn in being either the Hunter or the Upkeeper. Hunters are the Warriors of the species, they provide protection, keep security, and provide food. The Upkeepers are the ones that maintain the city, repair broken equipment, tend to crystal farms, etc... Even the Council members and Clan Lords follow the system. This was created to ensure that everyone is on the same level as one another. And so that they are aware of how the city functions. They believe that one should've just focus on just strength but also brains and thus they become less divided. There are no shops or marketplaces in Xiqalqa because the Ananaki do not have a monetary system. Instead they just trade with each other and try to share whatever they can and if they can't offer objects than they offer help with chores instead. The Ananaki do not really have laws but a moral code that they follow. Any crimes are resolved between criminal and victim by dueling each other, whether or not it's to the death depends on the crime. Sexual crimes are forbidden and basically never happen due to religious reasons.
- Weapons and Armor:
Both genders wear armors that appear barbaric or gladiator-like in style, decorated with bones, claws, fangs, etc... The armor however is not mass-produced, each piece of armor is hand-made by the warrior himself. They are responsible for gathering the materials needed and can design it however they wish. These armors are crafted at home by the fire pit. Their weaponry are all melee-based and they are all partly made from the black crystals that they farm.
- Education:
They do not have schools instead the family becomes their mentor that teaches them about whatever they need to know. At age 500 the small children are already getting lessons on how to better control their dark powers. Then by the time they become 1.000 years old they receive their first combat training. Up till around 20.000 years old they stay with their parents before they venture out to form their own families.
- Family, Births and Deaths:
A family unit consists of about 3-7 members, children not included. The Ananaki however are a polygamous race, families are called harems. Some gender combinations are 1 male and several females, 1 female and several males, or the more common combination; an equal gender ratio. Monogamous couples do exist but are more rare, they are also considered special for religious reasons. The reason why the Ananaki are polygamous is because in the past there was too much infighting with deaths involved when Ananaki start to fight one another for the attention of a mate, especially among the males. So the Council during that era came with a solution, share your mate. So when 2 parties are interested, it is between them to decided whether or not they wish to be mated. If one party has has other mates on the side then they can only watch without interference. In the case where both parties have mates on the side then those harems simply merge. The strongest warrior in the harem usually becomes the head of the household. The Ananaki though do not have homosexual couples as homosexuality simply doesn't exist with them. When encountering LGBT couples from others species they find it odd, it's a concept they are not familiar with. Because for them there are males and females for a reason, to breed and create more warriors. It does happen where mates are no longer interested in each other. When that happens the relationship is simply over. There's no fuss made about it. Both parents still raise the children but girls stick within the house of their mother while the boys stick with their fathers should one of the parents move house. Pregnancies, everyone helps each other out during those moments. Until the labor starts then the men are kicked out of the house while the women help the new mother. Infants tend to have brighter skin colors than their adult counterparts but those colors will fade by the time they reach the 1.000 year threshold. The whole harem helps with raising the children. Death and cannibalism go hand in hand for the Ananaki. When a warrior has fallen the sector where the deceased lived will hold a feast in his honor...he's the feast. it is believed that the consumption of the body will increase their powers. Whether this is true or not is unclear. After the feast, the harem takes the remains and turn it into ashes. Then they visit the Hall of Codex, a chamber where the dead are remembered but it also acts as a library where the entire knowledge and history of the species is kept. The ashes are mixed with stone slabs called death stones. Names of the fallen is carved in it before it joins the rest of the death stones that float in the center of the room.
- Ceremonies, festivals, etc...:
The Ananaki do not have marriages to indicate that they have a mate. They can tell who is mated to who by their scent. Funerals are explained in the Family section. Coming of age; when the Ananaki reach their 20.000 year a two-part ceremony is held. The first part is the Great Hunt. Where the young are dropped off somewhere to kill the target provided. These days it's the Narx'un. They cannot return without a trophy. This is a dangerous event of course as sometimes the young do not survive the ceremony. The second part of the ceremony is a dance! With large bonfires, lots of music, and food. Even the Council members are joined with this ceremony. The young are too dance till they enter a trance to 'present themselves' to their ancestors. Then the Council members decide whether or not the young have matured enough to be seen as an adult. War blessings; before going to battle the Ananaki hold a blood festival. It is exactly what you think it is, lots of blood sacrifices and lots of dancing.
- Religion:
They have a somewhat shamanistic belief system. Where they worship their ancestral spirits. Three of those spirits have been deitified though; the Loqna(mother), the Loqxe(father), and the evil spirit Axatotq. These deities have once walked among them before the discovery of the Crystal deposits. They are also symbolic representations of the moral code. The mother = In history she was the mate of a great leader that unified the Ananaki. She was honored for her intelligence, foresight, and clever trickery. Some say she introduced using dark elementism with combat. The mother is worshiped both on her own or as a duo with her mate. For female Ananaki she represents female strength. She is also prayed to for fertility or family affairs by both genders. The father = In history he was a great warrior and great leader. He is a type of Wargod to the Ananaki's. They pray to him for successful hunts and the ability to protect their loved ones. he is also an example that one shouldn't just rely on their muscle but their smarts as well. Before going to war they hold a blood fest for his blessing. The unity = There's a concept that all Ananaki try to strive for within their relationships. A special bond between your mate where one is so in tune with each other, it's like an unspoken bond. It's very sacred to them. Some say that this can only be experienced by being monogamous but there are others that claim to have found this union with several mates. This concept started with the tale where the mother and the father defeated the evil Axatotq, their combat and teamwork was quite a sight to see. Axatotq = he was known as a gluttonous Leviathan that roamed the skies of Irkalla. An old creature that ravaged the land by eating animals and destroying forests at the same time. Food was getting more scarce because the animals kept migrating to escape Axatotq and plant life struggled to recover itself as whole trees would get uprooted. In the end he was defeated by the other two deities and became the symbol of evil and destruction. It also taught them a lessen in balance and that everything had consequences. But there's also a positive to be taught by this tale. After destruction comes rebirth and renewal. Hope.
- Crystal Technology:
Their tech is based on the usage of a variety of crystals. To humans they appear to become varied in colors, but to Ananaki they can tell the difference by touch and sound as each crystal type gives off a different frequency and magical aura. Crystals are grown in underground farms, they tend to grow at a very slow rate, almost like trees. There’s the hard part, the crystal that comes in various colors and the soft part. The root which almost seems to have a clay-like substance. The bigger the crystal the more energy/juice it has. When one breaks a large cluster into pieces the powers gets divided of course depending on how large the chunks are. A cluster the size of 2 hands can easily give energy for about 50- 100 years until their energy runs out. Some crystals tend to influence their environment as they give off a type of elemental energy but all crystals have a soft glow of their respective color. The Ananaki however, because they’re color blind, perceive the glow as an aura instead. The crystals do not lose its function when they are being carved into a desirable shape or even melted down. It’s the size that influences the energy level not the ‘damage’. When a crystal runs out of energy it can be noticed by the way they are starting to lose both their color and glow to the point where they turn into a black-purple-ish color with a soft purple glow. Despite no longer giving of energy these crystals are still good conductors of dark element magic.
This technology is heavily guarded by the ananaki from outsiders as their entire civilization depends on it.
White crystals(ixtac) have a cloudy quality to it. These are mostly used as a computer. These crystals can retain and send data. You will find these almost everywhere in technology; keyboards, gadgets, screens, etc… it’s how one can program things. These crystals when used are often seen in combination with other crystals. The crystal has a strange side-effect sometimes called ‘ghosts’. Because the crystal can retain information, it tends to sometimes play back images of whatever it has ‘recorded’ about its surroundings. In the early times it was once mistaken for visions from the future.
Blue crystals(texo’tic) have a soft blue color but a sub version of this crystal has been known to appear darker in that shade. These are used for healing treatments as it has been discovered that the energy they give off has a calming, cleansing and healing ability. They also use it to purify water. Every harem usually has a small cluster of those crystal in their home for clean water or healing severe injuries or promote quicker limb regrowth. There are spa facility specifically for relaxation and healing. The subversion of the crystal is more volatile in energy and of darker blue color. Because it creates negative energy that comes in the form of ice storms. Surrounding the crystal is a ice storm, the large the crystal the more range and violent the storm becomes. The Ananaki use these crystals in the ceiling of their city cave. Allow ice storms to brew within pockets to create layers of ice on the walls. Then they seal of the crystal to let the orange crystal that are at the bottom melt the ice to provide fresh drinkable water. The water then seeps through the ceiling creating small waterfalls that pool in water well.
Green crystals(xoxoctic) have an emerald color and are placed in various locations on the outskirts and some in the ceiling to promote vegetative growth. They even placed some large clusters within the biomes/habitats of the planet. Currently they are working on a project to try these crystals in the wasteland parts to see if what was once dead could regrow. But war with the Narx'um are slowing down the research. The Ananaki itself do not have much personal use for those crystal except for aiding the planet and wildlife which they closely monitor. A side-effect from these crystals though is that sometimes they tend to stimulate plant growth a bit too much. Making things grow at a rate faster than the Ananaki can handle, this is why when clusters get too big they break it down to more manageable pieces and spread out and plant them somewhere else.
Yellow crystals(coxtic) are the only crystals that float in the air. When clusters are grown and broken, or when the soil was too loose to hold them they float upwards as if gravity has no effect on them. The Ananaki use them to create their ships with to make them ‘fly’ and to transport items by creating platforms with these crystal domes underneath it to levitate the platform. The white orb and death stones in the Hall of Codex are kept in suspension thanks to a yellow crystal placed underneath. They are tricky to work with though as the Ananaki often have to carry extra weights around their waist so they don’t end up floating along with the crystals.
Orange crystals(xoc’ialli) are known for being a very hot to the touch crystal. They also tend to influence their environment by causing small fires and the largest clusters are known to have magma ooze out of them. Naturally they are also used as a type of energy source for machines and equipment that run on ‘fuel’. These crystals are often melted down into either a cylinder or ball shape. The bigger they are the more heat they give off but it has been discovered that the subversion of the blue crystals can negate that side-effect. The part where the surface is too hot to touch. This is why you’ll often see orange cylinders or balls having a layers of dark blue crystal surrounding them.
Red crystals(ci’iltic) are not used and are even dangerous. The Ananaki believe it to be a mutation of sorts as this crystal can only drain life away. The cultists of Axatotq used to forged weapons out of them. Signs in the wild of their presence is shown through ‘dead spots’ in nature, life simply corrodes away. This is why the wasteland was once overgrown of them. The Ananaki try to contain this problem by chipping them into as many small pieces as they can so that it can run out of energy as fast as possible. But this task is to be handled with care. The Ananaki wear special suits made from the thickest leather they can find to prevent any splinters from entering their body. Hair and face is also completely covered up. It has been known that these crystals can drain the life out of Ananaki despite them having cell regeneration. There’s also a law against the usage of these crystals, a law that extends to outsiders as well.
Black-purple crystals(tliltic) are one of the most used crystals. These are actually crystals from previous colors that have lost their energy output. But the crystal can still conduct dark elementism like no other material in the universe. It is often used in armors and weaponry. They also function as a ‘computer screen’ and keyboard at the same time. When using per example the PDA wrist bands; channeling small amounts of dark energy activates the technology as holographic images start to hover over the crystal surface. The holograms have more of a wispy quality then a static image like other humanoid technologies have. All technology is activated or functions because of this crystal. People cannot use their technology unless they posses the ability to manipulate dark elements.

The Ananaki have always been tribal in lifestyle. Settlement ruins from billions years ago are still proof of this. Timeline-wise however tends to be blurry. The Ananaki have a long lifespan but even they can’t possible remember everything throughout their life. This is where the lines blur as they tend to mix things up as dates then to change constantly. This is also because of the fact that the planet was nocturnal for a very long time, so they didn’t really have a sense of time then.
Here’s what they do know according to their historical records. They had 2 eras where the species regressed into a primitive predatory state. How or why this happened hasn’t been discovered yet. During those times the Ananaki lived more like wild animals with a pack mentality. Some claim that it was the constant need for conflict and blood lust that kept slowing down their evolution as they had a difficult time to overcome their inner beast.
Between those times they had a simplistic tribal life. Living of the land in huts that were created in both treetops and on ground. Crude weaponry was forged from rocks and wood. People’s lifespan were a lot shorter considering that anything was an excuse to die for. Food, water, a place to sleep, a mate, the right to have offspring, etc…
Then came the time where their deities were still alive and amongst them. Their names have been forgotten but they will always be known as the Mother and the Father that lead their species to a civil state of life. These individuals were tired of the constant fighting, the excess in bloodshed that wasn’t needed and that it only divided the species in Clans. Through warfare however they unified the species, forcing everyone to work together for once and share...a new concept.
Those were some difficult times as they were being plagued by a gluttonous oversized leviathan that was wrecking the environment by devouring plant and animal alike forcing the Ananaki to go either into hiding, migrate, or fight back. They choose the latter of course. United under one banner they fought the beast and killed it. This achievement to this day is still being talked about.
Some time later about a couple 100.000 or so, they discovered the various crystals that grow in the massive cave systems Irkalla has. A new era began then, an era of technology. By the time they had discovered all there was to known about the crystals, their planet seemed to have been locked into orbit with a solar system. This caused the Ananaki to evolve and start using echolocation to get around places because the planet suddenly had a sun again. This also brought them into an era where they manged to advance on a galactic level, being able to create star ships to visit other planets.
During that time they encountered a planet with humans that resembled a lot like the tales from Conan the barbarian. Warrior-like like them and smarter prey than they were used to...a new challenge.
This is where the habit of hunting sentient species sprouted from.
This is also when a change on a genetic level occurred in the Ananaki. Q’dod might just be the only Ananaki that ever had the guts to say it out loud; that they might have been breeding with that humanoid species. And that is why the Ananaki have human-like features.
But they will hear none of it, it is considered a stain on the history of greatness. The children born came out smaller and weaker. The leaders feared that if they allowed those children to breed one day that it would continue to weaken the species. So a genocide was ordered.
What happened to the offspring is unclear in the records as it has seemingly been erased. The Ananaki wish to forget this part about their history. However when you look at the species today, with the features they have now it is safe to say that the genetics did get passed on one way or another.
Then a catastrophe happened, an event they called the Great Collapse. They failed to notice an asteroid heading their way. It was too late to send troops to try and break the asteroid into smaller pieces in hopes to minimize the damage. So instead they did the greatest magical feat they ever did, but it cost them dearly…
The entire species combined their powers to form a shield around a portion of the planet. When the asteroid made impact, the blow was so large that it caused the planet to shatter in pieces and sling it out of the orbit again, becoming a rogue planet for the second time.
The current Ananaki you see today are the only ones that survived, on what is probably the only viable piece of planet they have left. The majority of the population perished when producing the force shield, and part from the asteroid impact. For a while they were weakened and sick from the radiation they sustained but slowly thanks to their cell regeneration they recovered however they noticed that their fertility levels have not returned to normal. Now there are about a couple 1000 Ananaki left, a heavy price was paid to safe their home…
Slowly they rebuild their civilization and formed one large clan, once more uniting under one banner. They abandoned their settlements and gathered at the second largest mountain that was known to have cave systems that was large enough to sustain their numbers, with a working ecology and crystals at their disposal. With the use of terraformers they tried to heal their planet from the leftover radiation while remaining hidden underground.
Needless to say they recovered just fine, except that the plant life seem to have fed on the radiation and gigantism in the plants, even some species of animals. And just when the planet was stabilized, the convergence happened.
