History
Roland grew up in a dwarf society that praised martial prowess and frowned upon anything short of it.  As he had no desire or willingness to draw blood he was shunned by his family and friends.  Ignored by everyone he took to the streets and began trying to find his own way.  With a few credits he had stolen from a tourist Roland was able to see a magician perform for the first time and he became hooked. 

He approached the magician after the show and from that meeting became first an apprentice to the craft of stage magic, and then to spellcraft.
