Arrogance.  Remus knows just how good he is in his given field and doesn't believe there is anything out there that can compare with his skill level.  It can be painfull when he finds out how wrong he is.

History
Remus tore apart and rebuilt his first computer when he was six years old.  From that point on he began a career dedicated to technology.  It became clear to him at the age of 25 that in order for technology to keep progressing sharing between manufactures was needed.  This led to "forced sharing" of company secrets as he began a series of thefts that increased his own companies profits but also led to his being discharged from the company in disgrace.

Since that time he has steadily increased his skills as both a programmer and as a thief.  While he no longer has the vast resources at his disposal that he once did he still has a wide array of contacts in the industry.  Between the network of contacts and his skill at stealing other company's secrets he was a prime candidate to be recruited by the thieves guild.
