Few know of the disability the Varanus possess that weakened their connection to the magical energies they once had.Despite magic itself being scarce in the Sigma Draconus {Andromeda Galaxy} the Varanidae historical texts hold evidence that the Varanus did not just cast magic but had an affinity for it.It remains an mystery to why the Varanus cannot inherently tap into the magical ether to cast magics anymore and any answer to this mystery is closely guarded by the Sect of the Five who claim that magic itself was an curse to the Varanidae despite that the high priests do not shy away from using magic themselves.

The only powerful magical connection the Varanus can still tap into is done through an dangerous test called the Trails of Armaros,the test changes the physical form of the Varanus as it taps into the ancient and primal energies hidden within making those who pass it more dragon-like in appearance and granting them the ability to cast magics with inherent ease.Those who pass the tests are named Vikah {Chosen Ones} and become Nobility within the Imperium should they choose to join the Court.

The "Kah"

Kah which means "ones" in ancient Varanus dialect is used to refer to the 2 sub-species of Varanus created by the Trails of Armaros.

The Vikah. {Chosen Ones}

Forming the majority of the noble class of the Imperium the Vikah are able to cast magics with ease,take flight using their dragon-like wings and appear more dragonlike in appearance then an regular Varanus.

The Vikah regardless of career or social standing are usually treated with respect by the other castes usually because most of the Vikah are nobles or have noble ties alongside the achievement of passing the trails of Armaros.Some however shun this path to learn more about the "divide" of the Varanus becoming traveling scholars investigating the relationship between the Zodarrin races and the magic of the Milky Way.

The Zikah. {Pale Ones}

Those who fail the trails of Armaros either die or undergo an biological transformation that turns them into the albino Zikah.

The Zikah gain the ability to sense magic and danger within an certain radius {Usually 40 meters} and have heightened senses with the limited ability to track foes regardless of enviroment. Despite these newfound strengths the Zikah are unable to regenerate like the other Varanus without special medicines to start the process and they lose their ability to resist fire magics.Their lifespans are also cut in half and do not gain wings like the Vikah.

Most Zikah appear sickly and tired with puffy eyes and an strained grin,however one must not mistake them as being ill or weak for they are far from it,this sickly appearance is mainly due to the slow decay of their cells and the even slower regeneration of it.

Most Zikah are drafted into the Imperial Guard which is tasked on protecting the members of the Imperial Court and act as bodyguards to it's membership.The Zikah are usually clad in ivory-white armour that acts also as an symbol of their caste.Despite their role as guards the Zikah enjoy high end lifestyles similar to the nobility.
