Name: Faeries
Homeplanet: Tenebris
Sentience: Non Sentient
Strengths
Having insectoid wings allows faeries to hover several feet above the ground, getting over obstacles with ease.
Faeries have a sort of hive-connection that allows them to attune their emotions with one another when nearby.
With such a small size (only up to a foot tall), Faeries can fit nearly anywhere.
Faeries have sharp sets of teeth, allowing them to easily pierce light infantry armor.
Weaknesses
When in rain, a faerie will cease to be able to fly in any way.
The thoughts of other faeries can distract a faerie while they are in mid-concentration via their pseudo-hive mind.
Being small also makes Faeries extremely weak, with some being able to be killed by something as simple as repeated swats by a rolled up news paper.
Appearance
Rather insectoid in appearance than the regular representations, with rigid chitin shells across their body, and many antennae spurting from their head, Faeries are not as nice-looking as the myths say they are. With two pairs of wasp-like wings, with bioluminescent marks across their bodies that determine their hierarch, which range from green to a neon magenta. Their heads consist of mainly their snake-like, razor sharp jaws, with two beady eyes hidden behind a flair of antennae. It has three sets of limbs; one set of long, locust-like back limbs, a vestigial pair of arms, and longer, thinner arms, used for most things. These arms each end in four, long, bony phalanges, each tipped with a small claw.
Culture
These creatures follow a simple hierarchical system: the female with the most bioluminescent marks on her body is the matriarch of her pack. This pack can grow to be up to 60 faeries under one Matriarch's provision. When another female challenges the current matriarch, a violent fight commences; both females begin to tear at eachother's wings, as that is where the majority of glowing marks lie. In this system, Male Faeries become subservient hunters, rallying the prey like lionesses for a male lion (female faerie) to take down. With this strategy, they can take down prey as much as twenty times their size.
History
For as long as colonists have settled Tenebris, they had been plagued by the Faerie. These ravenous predators come out in swarms and kill off Bastion's livestock, and threaten the children of the tribal Darkbreed. Both groups despise Faeries as malevolent beings of the Eternal Dark, though the Darkbreed must include them in ritual sacrifices for their very nature.
