Whether political or personal, all drama was something Elias preferred to avoid. Since legions of lawyers duked it out over the legality of an immensely secretive faction within the GSU had caused tension in both the Nypherians' opinion of the Union and between the people itself, Elias had managed to ditch the other Nypherian officers in favor of some street clothes and a decent book to read in the middle of the day. Somehow, a bunch of AIs and stuck up military officers had forgotten how to relax for longer than thirty seconds.
With that said, Elias stepped into the first bookstore he passed and grabbed strolled down the the urban fantasy aisle, traditionally filled with dark paperback covers, anti-heroes, and uselessly overpowered magic. Elias sighed as he flipped through pages of the apparently more popular novels, even more traditionally filled with teenage stars trying to make their way in a new supernatural world after a tour of the secret society's base, an introduction to everyone useful, and the big bossman who may or may not end up being the villain by the end of the series. He ended up picking out a detective noir novel based in a reality where people were ruled and brainwashed by major corporations. The main character being a refreshing mix of a guy trying to do the right thing but also with the guts, know-how, and bullets to survive the next cyborg mugging or police shootout. Not really Elais' cup of tea, but it would do for a few days. He purchased the book and slipped it into his well stocked leather satchel before moving towards a restaurant/bar next door. Patronage was thin during mid-afternoon hours, but a seat by the window would do perfectly for some light reading and a bit of food for the day.
