Day 1
-the birth of a cocept

"if sentry guns are so good, why dont we deploy them in space?" was the phrase uttered by a drunken immortal soldiers arguing over how good or bad autonomous guns were. Klaut coincidentally heard that phrase when he left his workshop after his shift. It did gave him the thought "why not?" though this required not simple strong dwarven mechanics but required powerfull sensors. The next day before going to work Klaut send a message to the coding masters in luminus to figure out how to make long range sensors that could lock on and cover the whole territory. For now though this would have to happen secretly so he sent it directly to head scientist syvaenne with a footnote of having to keep it secret. As soon as the message was sent he left his mansion and went back to work in Bylyn jr.

Day 2
-the confirmation

After another long day of tinkering and designing Klaut got home again. He made dinner first and took it to his pc to check for any replies on his concept. He got a confirmation from the head scientist in luminus letting him know there was something in the works, a sensor that can cover the entire territory would be difficult, but not impossible. Now Klaut could take the rest of the design in his own hands next to a few other pet projects. Now the work could begin, he chose the guns to mount on the project he called space sentries for now. He chose a fusion driver in cannon mode whose gas effectively doubles as a self destruct function to prevent enemies from getting their hands on the and the rest he would decide at work tomorow, he wrote it down on a working tablet and finished his regular day ritual.

Day 3
-The tinkering

The next morning Klaut woke up and got up to do his normal morning routine, breakfast and the like. Then he went off to work but what was different today is that he brought some blueprints along he usually didnt. Unsurprisingly, these were the blueprints for his space sentries. Once at work he went around telling the night crew their shift was over and headed for his office. After starting the production for the many new ground vehicles that were created he continued working on the space sentries. The already installed fusion cannon was a great long range confrontation. He would require a new kind of close range automated defense weapon under the long range one to defend against fighters. This would be a great thing for a quantum weapon as they didnt require any ammo to be fed, they could just create ammo for a flak cannon to defend the sentry itself.

Day 3
-the tinkering 2

Quantum guns were hard to modify, so Klaut had to be personally involved in the creation of this gun, for him though it was childsplay. Just modify the coding and triple barrel it to increase the general fire rate, slap it on a long range on-planet sentry turret, place on the on and off button. Then alternate the firing behaviour to fire hail instead of single projectiles and done. The defense measures of the defensive robot (defenception) was done. After the lunch break, he went on to arm the design further, he wanted this gun to have more than just a slug, next the explosives would be mounted on. A regular heatseeking rocket launcher like the ones immortal fighter ships have equiped would be nice but this also reminded him that other ships may have the same idea, this called for a short range sentry guns to destroy incoming missiles, though this could come later. The long range explosive weapon was next in line.

day 3
-the tinkering 3

The rocket launcher would be a good weapon to defend the planets against fighters with. It would be placed next to the fusion cannon and would have an equally lare barrel. With that more easy thing out of the way, Klaut could set his mind onf the defense against missiles. These could easily be countered by a regular sentry gun placed next to the flak sentry. Sentry guns were already extremely common in immortal teritory for their quickl lock on and valuable defensive capabilities against hostile personnel, so getting a batch for the border patrols would be an easy task. But yet with the fusion driver, defensive abilities and rocket launcher, it still felt that something was missing. But his shift has ended and he could go home. He would do the rest tomorow.

Day 4
-The tinkering 4

After going through his routine again, he walked to work wondering what else he could add to the gun, it already had decent defense against ressistance, long range weaponry but it felt it was missing something. Once at work he looked over the blueprint and decided he could add a Laser based weapon weapon to bypass regular armor, a death ray could hit two birds with one stone as it did not only have the ability to destroy the armor but also severely wither it to help defensive fighters take down the attackers much easier. Some deals were made and the death ray was worked into the design and still with this array of weapon it just didnt feel finished yet. So because four barrels are better than three Klaut saw fit to place a second Fusion cannon but plasma infused this time, like with the plasma pulse accelerator but a cannon version with a second supply of fusion gas.

Day 4
-The prototype

With the blueprint made it was ready to have a first run. The blueprint was sent to the bylyn on jeslore. Once recieved the dwarves of bylyn began forging, crafting and wiring the first border patrol droid. A day went by until it was deemed ready though there were a few hiccups, so the droid had to be redesigned, tinkered and redesigned again until it was perfect. This all together took two more days but soon the droid was ready to be tested. It was sent to Apex 122 along with a few other weapons and loaded onto a Viral battleship, tomorow the test if this thing would be effective would take place. The droids worked on a remote and automatically locked onto ships but would hold their fire unless the fire button was pressed as to not destroy civilian ships. Once a hostile ship was locked on each droid would go on auto fire and unleash a barrage upon the targeted ship while automatically firing on nearby fighter ships, these functions would be turned off unless an attack was taking place.

Day 6
-The deployment

The day it arrived, the drone was loaded onto a viral battleship and taken out into immortal territory for a test run, it was thrown out onto space while the viral battleship positioned itself behind the droid. The droid was powered on and it almost instantly targetted the viral, naturally the fire button was not pressed and instead, immortal ships were set never to be targetted. A dummy ship was sent out of the viral ship wich was also remotely controlled and again, the patrol droid locked onto it immediatly and this time the fire button was pressed and the ship was effectively destroyed in mere seconds. a few more were sent out to test each weapon and it proved to be very succesfull.

Day 7
-The distribution

With the effectiveness of the border patrol droids proved, distrubution began and the droids were being mass produced and deployed all over immortal teritory. They werent simply scattered throughout immortal teritory either, they were placed in such areas that one would always have to be under fire to destroy another one and as time passed they became more and more common throughout immortal teritory. Effectively securing their sector from hostile attacks. It would take some real beef to pass through their turf without a civilian, allied or employed status now. Over the years many hostile ships passing through have already been destroyed and the idea of this drunken soldier has proved to be a greater success than alot of machinery tinkered up in dwarven workshops.

Unstuck in time
-The efficiency

What started with the idea of drunken ravings has now become the most efficient device is teritorial defense systems. Over the years many hostile warships and fregates have tried to attack and have all been shot down effectively. The near instant lock on of the cannons has proven it's brutal efficiency on even the largest and thoughest of ships while the smaller personal defense weaponry have proved to be equally effective in taking down fighters that attempted to destroy the guns. Though noted weaknesses of the guns are showing. While they can lock on instantly they have no way to predict so enemies moving in irregular high speed patterns can still dodge their shots assuming they're small. Larger ships can still be hit by the heat seeking missiles. Another showing weakness is the endurance itself, they can easily be destroyed but fortunatly their scrap can also be collected and be used to create new ones.
