Heaven

Heaven's Memory exited lightspeed in orbit of the seemingly alien planet, allowing those on the bridge to see for themselves what Heaven had become. A dark, desolate planet with only slight cracks resembling anything of it's former holy power. Steadily the ship positioned itself within orbit, releasing the shuttles that would take the landing parties down towards one of the remaining areas of Light. There by the shore of crack stood what little remained of Heaven's Palace; a crumbling ruin.

"Thank you for coming with me, Talis." Jaya said as she swallowed the sense of fear that was invoked by looking at this place. The shuttle doors lowered to show the full scale of destruction. Once beautiful temples and houses were now mere rubble, tents standing low between ruins to house the survivors who themselves seemed no better off.
"My pleasure, Queen Jaya." Talis Veilsong stepped from the shuttle first, adorned in onyx-coloured armour and a red silk cloak. His hand rested on the hilt of his sword as he surveyed the area, before nodding it was safe for Jaya to exit.

She followed promptly behind, dressed herself in shining silver armour and a white-gold silk cloak. Blightslayer was sheathed proudly by her side.
"Jaya Almis..." One of the older angels stumbled out from beneath his tent, every aspect of him from wings to skin torn and decrepit. "Is it you?"

"Yes," Jaya replied, giving Talis a worried glance before focusing back on the old man. "I'm here to see the King." To that the man only gave a sad look.
"I'm afraid the King is dead. There are only the dead and the soon to be dead here, my lady." His head hung low, hands trembling as he hunched over. "But now you are here, maybe we might stand a chance against them."
"Them?" Jaya asked.
"The Dead."

The three of them moved over to the cover of a nearby tent, gathering around a table which depicted drawings of angels with torn wings and scarred bodies.
"Ever since the Crusade came souls have stopped coming to Heaven. Instead the Angels became corrupt and fell to darkness. The Fallen still roam even after the war. They still attack us each night and threaten to destroy us all."
"What happened to your soldiers? Your army?" Talis asked.
"Slain or turned by the Demons. The only few of us who can fight are not strong enough to face the Fallen. There are too many of them."
"We have an army. We can help you take back this world. Your home." Jaya placed her hand on the old man's, trying to reassure him.

In response he pulled his away and shook his head.
"This is not our home. This is no longer Heaven. The people call it Desolace now, and we have begged the Light to give us a way to escape..."

Jaya gulped, walking to the edge of the tent to examine the people all around the camp. They limped and struggled in nearly all their efforts, most simply lay in either emotional or physical pain.
"We have to help them." She said, sensing Talis was now beside her.
"Of course. The earth here holds many horrors I would not wish to tell." He replied, referring to his species ability to communicate with nature. "Nor would I wish for these people to relive."
"Begin loading the survivors onto shuttles and alert the ship we will be departing with civilians." Jaya gave the order to one of her guards nearby, who promptly nodded and rush off to relay her commands.

"There is nothing left to do but help who we can." Talis placed his hand on Jaya's shoulder, sensing her sadness and tinges of guilt. "The War is over. These people will be safe in the Union."
"I guess so," Jaya nodded, suppressing a tear. She hoped to remain strong throughout this visit, and so her face remained neutral when she looked up at Talis. "I'll have a new district built for them, and any other survivors of the war."
"My people shall do the same. They may always find shelter on the Feyworld." Veilsong smiled back, then looked out to the camp that was now being searched by their guards for survivors.

"Will you come back to Phoenixspire?" Jaya asked the King as they both began to walk back to their shuttle.
"If you would have me, my lady."
"Of course."

"The survivors have been given temporary housing until the new district is complete," Jaya explained as both her and Talis examined the table in Phoenixspire's royal hall, on top of which was a map of the city. "Search and Aid efforts have been deployed to other planets outside the Union, in case they were affected by the War too." A nod signaled her happiness with the plans, allowing her to stand straight and look to Talis.
"Very good," He commented, tracing his finger over the map to get a last look at the new district's plans. "The Nypherians have defeated the Darkness on Norma Prime, it seems."
"Was Lana..."
"She escaped, but reports have it the Entity was stripped from her."

With a lowered head Jaya nodded, still worried at the possibility of Lana being out there. She had an obsession with her family, so one of them being the target of another attack was not out of the question.
"Do not worry, my queen." Talis moved around the table, lowering his head to catch her gaze. "You are stronger now, and you are well protected. As for your parents, they can definitely handle themselves from the stories I have heard." He smiled, giving her a 'you know I'm right' look.

"Lana will meet her end, as do all wicked things."

Jaya awoke that morning to the creeping of sunlight through her curtains, prompting a raise of her head to examine the new day. After a few moments of awakening she rose fully, checking first of all the Blightslayer was still safe. Once that was affirmed, she turned back to watch the visitor to her room.
"Good morning." She smiled, walking over to the curtains to peer out at the view of Phoenixspire.

"Morning..." The tired voice of Talis replied, him too raising his head from the bed.
"Come on, there's more work ahead." Jaya's voice seemed to become slightly serious, but Talis could see through her joke.
"Yes, my Queen." Talis smiled in reply, rising up to fetch his clothes.

Meanwhile Jaya continued to look over Phoenixspire, concentrating like she did every morning on clearing her mind of the nightmares.
