Chapter 2: The Apocalypse Empty#1PostSubject: Chapter 2: The Apocalypse   Chapter 2: The Apocalypse EmptySat May 20, 2017 5:43 pm

During its period of recovery, the realm of Hell and its inhabitant demons were without leadership. At numerous times, different demons came forth declaring leadership, only to be challenged by others who claimed the same. This continuous cycle of bloodshed finally came to an end when the strongest amongst them, a powerful demon named Purloin, successfully rose to the throne. With him he had a huge following which only grew the more his influence spread throughout the realm, until every demon that lived in Hell pledged allegiance to him at last. With his son, Endymion, by his side as his right hand man, Purloin began to develop plans to reignite the Demonic Crusade against Heaven and Earth.

Humanity had by this time broke the barriers that limited them to Earth and reached out towards the stars. With the discovery of faster-than-light travel, the Human population spread out across different colony worlds in the Orion Arm of the Milkyway galaxy and developed their own interstellar empire policed and protected by the United Nations Space Command. One of the products of this military force was the development of SPARTAN supersoldiers. While few in number, the Spartans, coupled with their surgical enhancements, power armour and training, became a formiddable force against any foe that would try to oppose the UNSC. Rebel uprisings were quelled almost as soon as they started and Humanity seemed to be at the peak of what many considered a golden era.

Chapter 2: The Apocalypse Empty#2PostSubject: Re: Chapter 2: The Apocalypse   Chapter 2: The Apocalypse EmptySat May 20, 2017 6:00 pm

Around two decades into the 26th century, Humanity found themselves at war against an alien alliance. Many colony worlds fell as the UNSC rose to halt their aggression - albeit unsuccessfully most of the time.

Simultaneously in the midst of the war, news reached the UNSC that Heaven was under attack from the revived Demonic Crusade. Already being engaged in one war, the UNSC were unable to dedicate most of their resources to helping their allies in Heaven. The Office of Naval Intelligence, the intelligence agency of the UNSC, decided to handpick specific assets belonging to the UNSC to aid the Angels against their Demonic adversaries. One lone Spartan, Aaron-157 was as a result handpicked by ONI due to his previous experience with aiding the forces of Heaven in taking down The Horseman of War in No Man's Realm.

While Humanity continued to wage war against the alien empire, Aaron-157, at the young age of 16, occasionally joined forces with Heaven to battle against the Demons. During his time fighting alongside them, he became mildly acquainted with Dan and Kitty. The conflicts against the Demonic Crusade and the Aliens lasted until 2552 where Humanity had, through a series of battles that resulted in them reaching the outer rims of the galaxy, won the war against the Alien alliance.

By 2553, a final and brutal battle took place between the Heaven and Hell forces which dealt a severe blow to the opposition. At the end of it, Purloin mysteriously disappeared from Hell and his son was forced to take his place. Unlike his father, Endymion struggled with the burden of leadership and desperate for help, he embarked upon a long and grueling journey into some of the forgotten and abandoned lands of the realm. He arrived at a place that was said to contain a stolen artifact from a war that took place billions of years ago. There, he uncovered a portal of unknown origin and somehow succeeded in activating it. Walking through it, he arrived at a dead world in an uncharted region of space and came upon a mysterious tomb.

Upon entering the tomb, he discovered and accidentally awoke the ancient mummified body of a powerful being that called itself Armageddon.

Chapter 2: The Apocalypse Empty#3PostSubject: Re: Chapter 2: The Apocalypse   Chapter 2: The Apocalypse EmptySat May 20, 2017 9:18 pm

During the period following their victory, the army of Heaven rebuilt whatever had been damaged and continued to live on in peace. Kitty and Dan returned to Earth while Aaron returned to continue to serve in the UNSC.

An enigmatic supernatural soon came to the attention of both Dan and Kitty. The individual allegedly went around different cities and, killing people in cold blood. After a few days of tracking him, Dan managed to follow the individual back to his house where he witnessed him transform into a supernatural entity that resembled a leather-clad skeleton on fire. After a brief confrontation with him in his house, the two were forced to team up when squads of mercenaries attacked the house. After driving them off, the individual introduced himself as Gavin, and explained that the powers were not his own but imbued by something that possessed him.

Dan and Kitty soon became acquainted with Gavin and attempted to help him cope with his powers, despite the nature of the being inhabiting him being unknown. The entity within him, which Gavin identified as Zarathos, had an insatiable desire to punish individuals that were "sinful". After a few days, the group received news that Heaven was under a "brutal" attack from the demons that had somehow managed to rebuild their forces. They arrived to the realm just in time to find out that a few select individuals had been captured by the Demonic Crusade and taken to hell for a reason unknown.

Mustering Heaven's forces back under their command, Dan, Kitty and Gavin staged a counteroffensive against the demons into their territory. During the invasion, the group managed to discover some of the deceased corpses of the captured individuals - seemingly drained of their life force. The attack force soon came face-to-face with the leader of the renewed Demonic Crusade - Armageddon. It was at this point that the tide of the battle changed in the demons' favour as Armageddon exhibited tremendous power and was seemingly invincible to any attack they could throw at him. What remained of the army was driven out of Hell and retreated to Heaven.

During their recovery, Dan and Kitty continued to help Gavin control his powers while at the same time, spending more time together due to Dan's feelings for her. Heaven's "mightiest warrior" at that time, an angel named Razael was said to have disappeared a few months ago in pursuit of some ancient artifacts that allegedly belonged to the previous monarchies that ruled over the realm. As such, Heaven's army was essentially without a proper commander. The Queen of Heaven, Heather, recognised this as a huge vulnerability should the demons attack again anytime soon and contacted the UNSC for assistance.

With the arrival of Aaron-157 and a complement of specially trained Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, Heaven's army was now under new command - albeit temporary. With the ODSTs under his command, Aaron personally conducted a stealth mission into Hell's territory and while eavesdropping in on a conversation between the demonic residents, learned that Armageddon planned to search for four "keys" to activate an unknown relic called "The Eye of Time".

Upon returning to Heaven and questioning Heather, the Queen revealed that The Eye of Time was a machine that was constructed by an ancient race of incredibly advanced beings known as "The First", as well as many other names. As a security measure, the machine could only be activated with four keys. The Eye of Time was constructed billions of years ago as an extreme fail-safe measure during an ancient war against an unknown, powerful enemy. The machine was unfortunately discovered by the adversaries during the final days of the war. As such, it was never used and a different measure was taken to ultimately end the catastrophic war that, according to legend, almost brought an end to the entire universe.

When inquired as to where these keys are, the Queen of Heaven admitted that she didn't know, and it was unlikely that anyone else did either since these events took place eons ago.

When inquired as to where these keys are, the Queen of Heaven admitted that she didn't know, and it was unlikely that anyone else did either since these events took place eons ago.

This absence of intelligence was deemed by Aaron to be a tactical weakness. If this “Eye of Time” was significant enough for the leader of the Demons to go after, it was crucial that they got to it first, as well as the keys. Organising a larger spec-ops team comprised of some of Heaven’s soldiers, Kitty, Dan and Gavin as well as his ODSTs, Aaron led a second stealth operation into Demonic territory to gather more intelligence from anywhere - whispers, murmurs amongst demons, rumours, anything.

However, shortly upon arriving, they realised that it was too late. Armageddon had already ordered a fleet of Demonic ships to take off towards what they deduced, was the first key. Aaron quickly ordered his team to board any ship that was closest to them so that they may stow away and be present for when they uncover the key. Some of the spec ops team were successful while the remainder opted to stay behind and keep to the shadows of Hell.

Soon, the fleet arrived at an unknown planet and landed, after which the Demons began to drill into the core of the planet where the first key was allegedly held. After a few hours, the key was uncovered which is when Heaven’s forces emerged and took them by surprise. Recovering the key, the team commandeered the Demonic ships before receiving an alarming transmission on one of the ship’s radios - a second Demonic fleet had been dispatched at the same time and had already recovered the second key.

Chapter 2: The Apocalypse Empty#6PostSubject: Re: Chapter 2: The Apocalypse   Chapter 2: The Apocalypse EmptySun Jun 18, 2017 8:39 pm

Meanwhile on Hell, Endymion grew increasingly uneasy with the new leadership. Armageddon promised him power, yes - dominion over all of time and space. But was this something that he as a person wanted? All his life, he'd been brought up to hate everything that wasn't a Demon and all his life, there was an underlying need to reflect upon himself and whether what he was taught was right or not. And now, the question presented itself to him more prominently than ever. Was he on the right side?

Upon returning to Hell, Aaron established communication with the other half of his forces and ordered them to leave the realm and retreat back to Heaven while they provided covering fire from the stolen Demonic ships. As they bombarded the realm with the fleet's weaponry, the other half of the team managed to make it out alive. Hell's self-defenses retailiated against the bombardment and the fleet only barely retreated back to Heaven. Aaron handed the acquired key - a large oval shaped object to Queen Heather for protection.

While they had stalled Armageddon's plans to activate the Eye of Time, they only had one key and the whereabouts of the other two were unknown. The ships they had commandeered were too damaged to utilise now, and another stealth mission was unlikely to work a second time. It was then that Dan came up with the idea of waiting for the Demons to find the other keys, after which they would attack Heaven full force and steal them. Kitty agreed with the idea being potentially successful but also pointed out that Armageddon was an extremely powerful foe and it was unknown how they'd even fight him. "We don't need to," Dan said. "We just keep him distracted long enough."

Aaron agreed that by then, the still recovering UNSC could have a fleet ready for them to aid them in the attack if they were lucky enough. In the meantime, they’d build up their forces enough so as to increase the chances of their plan succeeding. Small teams of ODSTs would also frequently be sent to and from Hell in order to update Heaven constantly on Armageddon’s activities.

A few days later, news reached that two more Demonic fleets had been dispatched and arrived only a few hours later back to Hell - presumably carrying the remaining keys. Aaron gave everyone an hour roughly to prepare before they staged their assault, however before long the ODST team returned with a guest - Endymion. Having decided that he was on the wrong side, Endymion handed the remaining three keys over to Queen Heather and departed both Heaven and Hell to parts unknown.
With the keys now in their possession, Aaron proposed attacking Hell anyway and finishing the Demons off once and for all, however Dan pointed out that they couldn’t afford to do so at this point, as Armageddon was soon to realise that the keys were missing and the first place he would attack was Heaven. Therefore, it was more important that they fortified the realm as much as they could and wait for the UNSC backup to arrive before staging an assault on Hell. Aaron agreed and soon, the process of fortifications were underway.

After continued experimentation with the Keys, Kitty identified a mechanism in each of them that linked them to each other. As she fit them together, the Keys projected a holographic map of a star system that displayed the location and coordinates of The Eye of Time. As the process of fortifications continued, Aaron received an emergency broadcast from the arriving UNSC fleet that they had been recalled to Earth under premise of a Demonic invasion. It seemed that Armageddon sought to attack first in order to prevent their backup from arriving. Soon after, Heaven was hit hard by an army of Demons. A gruelling battle ensued and Heaven’s forces, combined with the powers of Gavin, Dan and Kitty, held their own against the onslaught. However that changed when Armageddon arrived. He swept aside the fortifications, knocked out Gavin, Dan and Kitty and captured the Keys, as well as Queen Heather.

Aaron gave pursuit with his ODSTs, as the Demons retreated with Armageddon.. “We’ll stall them as long as we can, get everyone else to the Eye of Time!” He said before leaving, handing Kitty a data-chip that contained a holographic recording of the map shown by the keys that Aaron created.

With little time to spare, Dan contacted the UNSC using communication crystals on Heaven, and a fleet soon arrived. Dan, Kitty, Gavin and a number of Heaven’s soldiers boarded the flagship UNSC Destiny’s Harbinger and using the data-chip given by Aaron, travelled to the outskirts of the galaxy. Upon exiting slipspace, they came upon a large structure orbiting a red star, to which the Heaven soldiers referred as “The Temple”. After a few hours of setting up defensive positions and the arrival of additional support fleets, a massive object came out of slipspace just outside the small star system. A city-sized fortress ripped straight from the soil of Hell, ominously making its way towards The Temple.

A large space battle broke out between the Fortress and the defensive fleet, with the Fortress’s energy cannons proving quite a match for the Human ships. Gavin, Kitty and Dan took a dropship to The Temple with a battalion of Marines and Heaven soldiers where they were tasked with gaining entry to, and defending The Temple. After a lengthy battle, The Fortress came near enough to The Temple for multiple hordes of demons to invade it and soon, the battalion was overrun after a few hours of standoff. Dan, Kitty and Gavin were forced to move into the main chamber of The Temple, where they came face-to-face with Armageddon.

A three-on-one fight between them ensued, with Aaron, who had stowed away onboard the Fortress joining the fight shortly thereafter. The surprise arrival of Ven, Dan’s brother, also proved advantageous against Armageddon and they were for a few moments locked in a stalemate. However, Armageddon eventually managed to exhaust and defeat his opponents, battering and bruising them to the point of near-death. He proceeded to insert each of the four Keys into individual pedestals located around the chamber, activating its central portal-like construct. Just as he was about to step into it and claim his place as the controller of time, the warriorl Razael arrived and with a single swipe of his newly acquired artifact, The Arclight Blade, he sent a wave of energy into the portal and destroyed it, knocking Armageddon through a wall in the process. Quickly, the warrior gathered the battered heroes and soon, the UNSC fleet and Heaven’s forces retreated from the fight.

Chapter 2: The Apocalypse Empty#8PostSubject: Re: Chapter 2: The Apocalypse   Chapter 2: The Apocalypse EmptyMon Jun 19, 2017 1:56 am

While recovering on Earth, news soon reached that Armageddon’s Fortress had materialised just outside the planet’s orbit and was accelerating towards it at an alarming speed. The Earth soon after came under siege as fleets of Demonic ships rained fired down onto the planet, with the UNSC rising to protect their planet.

Shortly before this, Dan who by this point had been struggling with the Blue Fire Demon within him, began to have episodes of aggression as he continued to lose control over his destructive desires. He then mysteriously disappeared.

As Aaron prepared himself for an operation into the Fortress to destroy Armageddon once and for all, he was stopped only briefly by Razael. The warrior claimed that he would not be successful without his help as he was the one who possessed the Arclight Blade, the only weapon capable of killing Armageddon. Aaron accepted him as participant in the mission and was soon joined by Kitty. With some reluctance, Gavin also decided to join the mission, seeing it as his fight just as much as anyone else's now. To everyone’s surprise, Endymion also appeared and counted himself into the mission - claiming that it was all his fault as he was the one to revive Armageddon.

On their way up to the Fortress, their dropship was shot down and crash landed on the edge of the city-sized mass. After clearing the wreckage, the group, accompanied by some ODSTs who had dropped in to assist, entered the Fortress. Razael, having spotted Armageddon floating above his fortress, directing gunfire to the attacking UNSC ships, left the group to engage him head-on to provide the group some time. As they fought through the Fortress, they came upon its central chamber with a large hole in the middle of it. Through the hole, could be seen a massive cannon-like object that was pointed directly down at Earth. Endymion immediately recognised and explained its nature - it was called a “Purge Cannon”, which was designed to eliminate all life on a planet and expose its natural resources on the surface for harvesting. The Cannon had a mythical status among the residents of Hell - and now it was currently charging up.

Meanwhile, Razael and some of his warriors were locked in a gruelling fight against Armageddon, but soon his strength faltered and he was batted away by Armageddon’s superior might. Having neglected the UNSC fleet surrounding him, one of the ships targeted him and unleashed a barrage of ship-to-ship missiles towards him. A few missiles struck him head-on and he soon disappeared.

The central chamber of the fortress was now cleared and multiple charges set, ready to detonate the cannon. Just then, the entire group were levitated and thrown down the hole in the middle of the chamber, landing on a circular platform surrounding the cannon. Armageddon, now severely injured, challenged the heroes to a final confrontation - promising to make “quick work” of them before destroying their planet. Aaron, Kitty, Gavin, and the remaining ODSTs faced off against Armageddon. Razael soon joined the fight, seemingly tipping the odds in their favour.

The arrival of Ven, again in his dragon form, increased these odds and Armageddon, already weakened from the missile attack, showed signs of diminishing strength. However, as if through sheer force of will, the enraged giant ignored the punishment and fought back viciously against the group, swatting Razael and Kitty away, wrestling Ven to the ground, knocking Gavin out and brutally beating Aaron to near-death. Using his special staff to form a variety of different weapons, he heavily injured Ven and Kitty before engaging Razael and his Arclight Blade. The small duel was short lived which ended with Razael being impaled through the throat and his Arclight Blade falling from his hands. Armageddon then turned, converting his staff into an axe and raising it above his head - ready to finish Aaron off. However, he was then distracted by the sound of rapid footsteps approaching, turned and to everyone’s shock - was impaled through the heart by the Arclight Blade… wielded by Kitty. The giant gasped in pain and looked down at the small vampire, disbelief in his eyes before a grim expression overtook his face - accepting his fate. His life faded away as he fell off the circular bridge, into Earth’s atmosphere, seemingly burning up. His heart stayed impaled on the sword and Kitty slid it off, claiming it as her own trophy. Aaron thanked her for saving his life, before deciding to commandeer the Fortress. They were going to use it to destroy Hell itself.

As the siege on Earth ended with the victory of the UNSC, the Fortress materialised over Hell and with the help of the Destiny’s Harbinger’s AI, Sheila, the Purge Cannon was fired down onto the surface, destroying the realm for good.

Kitty and Gavin returned to Earth and Aaron returned to serve the UNSC. Heaven meanwhile began to rebuild, starting with a memorial dedicated to Razael. The Fortress was officially decommissioned and confiscated by the Office of Naval Intelligence - the UNSC’s Intelligence Agency for further study. It seemed that the Demonic Crusade had been completely destroyed, and life on Earth and Heaven resumed as normal.
