History:
Alongside Armageddon and many others, Mephistopheles served the Chaos Celestial Legion and was one of the few Daemons to rise up to prove himself worthy in front of the Celestial. Legion bestowed to him his own set of powers and abilities like he had Armageddon, however they were considerably different. He had the ability to create his own realms and dimensions inside which he had total control over anything. His power in this regard was enormous and in Legion's ancient war against the Universe and all of its inhabitants, Mephistopheles used his immense power to transport entire planets into his realm, where he'd effortlessly enslave or kill them altogether which in turn granted him more power. Mephistopheles was a devastating opponent in the war and many systems fell due to his terrifying abilities that were second to only Legions. It was believed that had Mephisto been given enough time, he'd have the ability to bend the fabric of space itself to his will.
Zarathos, the Entity of Justice was one of the few higher-powered beings aside from the Celestials that could stand up to him. However during their intense battle, Mephistopheles had managed to lure Zarathos into his own realm where the entity quickly fell in defeat. There, a million-year long torture of the Entity ensued where Zarathos was pushed far beyond the brink of insanity, transformed perhaps forever into a Spirit of Vengeance.
Mephistopheles was however left vulnerable and weakened from his fight with Zarathos, and was subsequently attacked by an armada of long forgotten Mythical beings that had managed to and trap him in his own realm. His realm was then banished from the Universe itself, never to be seen again for millions of years.
Eons after the defeat of Legion, the Universe had recovered from the devastating war and everything went on as normal. During this time, Mephistopheles had somehow managed to break through to the mortal realm again, albeit very slightly. The first planet on which his avatar had landed was Earth, where early humanity began to develop and flourish. Having severely weakened from his banishment, Mephisto sent the enslaved Zarathos to the planet who then possessed a willing human, effectively transforming him into the first Ghost Rider. The former Spirit of Justice's hatred against evil had transformed into an insatiable, insane lust for vengeance. Each evil soul vanquished had its essence transferred to Mephistopheles' realm which he then fed on. This continued as time went on and humanity progressed, with at least one Ghost Rider being present at every significant age of humanity. Eventually, Mephistopheles had garnered enough energy to be able to project more powerful avatars. His most recent victim was Gavin who became the newest Ghost Rider. This turned out to be a mistake however, as Gavin struck back against Mephistopheles and after a brief conflict, Gavin managed to lock him in his realm yet again - for a time.
Mephistopheles managed to again break through the barriers just enough to begin materialising himself in the mortal realm again, just after Armageddon's defeat. He secretly aided Draetheus in his campaign to gain control of Earth and after this failed, fled with him to his personal fortress in space where they were joined by Purloin - former King of Hell. From there he used his limited powers of teleportation and hypnosis to hinder his enemies such as causing Kittiana Youngblood to go on a mass, crazed killing spree and creating a copy of Aaron-157 to deal severe blows against the UNSC forces battling against Draetheus. Draetheus was still however defeated and Mephistopheles vanished with Purloin.
