Hitchhiker's Guide to Wizardry Empty
Public#1PostSubject: Hitchhiker's Guide to Wizardry   Hitchhiker's Guide to Wizardry EmptySun Mar 05, 2017 9:44 pm

Travel is long, hard, and irritating. Especially when you're a broke wizard who can't even afford coffee. Even the dirt water stuff would have done plenty by the time Elias finally wandered off the cramped transport out of GSU space. He was greeted by dirty, spray-painted corridors through some backwater station with no security officers to be seen, which also meant the place was mostly lawless and either rife with gangs or mercenaries. Neither of which Elias was too fond of trying to cocere a ride out of. Now, if there was a bounty board, that also meant money was somewhere to be earned. If Elias could get his hands on any of that, a decent shower would finally be in order, maybe he could throw in a nice hot lunch as a little treat. In the meantime, Elias would have to force himself to subsist on more supernatural energies to keep walking.

As Elias walked, he absentmindedly bumped into another human wandering about the station. He muttered an apology as he pulled a small clip off the man's belt. Elias glanced at the small electronic square in his hand and then back up at the broad shouldered man now disappearing into a crowd. Guilt crept through the wizard's chest as he debated returning the credit chip, but his stomach retaliated as the smells of greasy food wafted from a nearby bar. On stations, smell would always be increased fivefold, and the smell of greasy, half-charred burgers always turned out to be extremely appealing to a near-empty stomach. That on top of a few pints and Elias would be good to go. The wizard walked in and took a seat at an empty booth closer to the entrance, he made sure to sit facing the front as he placed his staff and bag against the wall to his side. With the press of a few buttons, Elias had ordered a beer, burger, and fries all to himself. With any luck, the appearance of a guy with a giant wooden staff and heavily charred and torn black/purple wizarding robes wouldn't attract too much attention from the armored mercenaries and pirates that filled the station.

Durax stared, open mouthed, as the human walked into the room. The dragonborn had previously been devouring a huge cut of raw meat when this staved human had proceeded to walk in and order some food and a beverage. He looked, half hopeful, half afraid as he looked upon the entity that he assumed to be magically adept. What if this is the guy, Durax mentally asked himself. He’d been searching so long to find a mentor.

It was then that Durax realized that he’d been staring at the human for several minutes, and the large, seven foot tall, shiny reptile man was starting to draw even more attention. Durax looked back at his slab of meat… beef, he thought. He then began eating it again, scolding himself for not speaking with the mage. Durax hated being so socially inept.

Throughout the station no one would seem to blend in as much as Jessie Red. With her mouth and noise covered by an old cloth, and her head covered by a tricorn hat, only leaving her fiery red eyes to shine through. Being dressed in a rubber/leather like suit of sorts, while holding a shotgun and carrying two scythes on her. It seemed she was in her perfect area. And that wasn't far from the truth. She'd grown up in areas like this, so she was fully accustomed to it, but she was still here on business. Whether it was "legal" business, wasn't to clear. Jessie was looking for people of interest, people who might know something that could be useful to her.

Looking around she determined one of the best places to start would be a near by bar. The smell coming from it disgusted her, however she knew in places like these, where there is alcohol, there are very interested characters. Marching her way into the bar, she slung her shotgun over her back, not caring to switch the gun to safety, for safety reasons. Having a weapon to pull out quickly was always a great way to show, that you meant business. When she entered she noticed the wizard, but didn't give him anymore attention than a simple glance. He didn't exactly look like the type of person she was looking for. Sitting down on a stool in front of the bar she ordered herself a couple beers, before turning around to face the entrance, elbows on the counter of the bar.

The station was filled with bandits, thieves, and mercenaries, the type of low-lives that Marudon usually find himself encountering on a day to day basis. But even amongst the scum of the universe, Marudon can still feel eyes looking at him, sizing him up, looking at him as if he was a threat. Most of them are just itching for a reason to fight a demon, sharpening their blades and readying their guns, but Marudon was not there to fight. He then enters a place that looks like a bar, the bar was bustling with aliens from all corner of the galaxy but some did stood out from the rest, A robed human carrying around a staff and a tall armored reptile looking creature. Marudon then takes a seat right by the human, interested to see what would happen next.

What even was this, all of these people had equipment that Malachi had never seen. Large tubes and blades made of materials he'd never seen nor could he even begin to guess the properties of, he didn't even know what was a weapon and what could be something so common as a fashion accessory or the like. The mass of unknowns around him caused him to maintain a white knuckled grip on the handle of his longsword.

Shifty guys however looked the same no matter what sort of technology level you were dealing with, and this station appeared to be rife with them, that at least he was used to. Surely the ways of acting among scum back on his home planet and here couldn't be all that different could they, and if worst came to worst running and escaping was always a valid option. Waves of displeasure radiated out from the black pit in his mind, apparently running was not a valid option in the demon's view, if an all powerful demon god thought that he shouldn't have to run from here then who was he to think otherwise.

Another thing that obviously didn't change much in the difference of tech levels were the appearance of inns, or at least the bar that would usually be in an inn as he'd spotted one quite quickly. Only issue was the fact that the sheer amount of weaponry of unknown use within the room unsettled him. It was quickly remedied as he spotted a man that was dressed seemingly as one of the mages that would be found on his home planet, did that mean he was a mage then? Well unless he was simply a joker or performer he was dressed as a mage.

It seemed someone else had taken interest also in the mage as he'd sat down. With direction on the etiquette and dropping some of the odd credits onto the counter he was quickly supplied with a mug of some liquid that smelled enough like the alcohol he was used to so that he was happy. Taking the mug he near enough walked straight to the table of the man dressed as a mage, turning only when he was a few metres away as he realised that a random stranger sitting down with him would probably freak him out, and the people here weren't necessarily going to be nice people. He shouldn't try and cling to someone jjust because they look like something he's used to.

Elias wolfed down his burger and fries the moment they arrived, not even taking a moment to savor the greasy and salty heaven the cheap food delivered. He ate the whole thing in no more than five bites and washed it down with a swig of beer. At the press of a few buttons, Elias had ordered another burger with fries, this time paired with a water to sate his suddenly parched throat. Still, even the relatively small amount of disgustingly unhealthy food Elias inhaled had done wonders to recover the wizard's frame of mind. With something for his stomach to work on, Elias was now more capable of sensing the ebb and flow of magic around him. The wizard let out a relieved sigh as he leaned back and finished his pint. Elias took his time savoring the second burger, slowly washing it down with water and ordering another beer.

The flow of magic always recognizably changed when it approached beings with some kind of magical awareness. Magic connects and binds the universe together as a web of sorts, and a living being will always be a point where the separate strings of that web link together. For most people, they are only two or three strings connecting. Therefore their power is nonexistent. For those with some talent of magic, the energies of the universe could only be described as drawn towards them. One of the few things that gave wizards an edge over other, more inherently magical beings was their ability to 'read' the web in a sense. Some even developed the ability to access what is often called a wizard's 'third eye'. A wizard's ability came chiefly through the ability to sense and manipulate the forces of magic around him, thus the more powerful the wizard, the greater his ability was to sense the flow of magic, and Elias swore on his life he could feel the faint twinge of magical talent flowing through at least three other beings in the room. However, there were so many other links in the chain that without a proper focusing ritual, Elias could only guess at which ones they were, the golden reptilian and two nervous people with swords instantly stood out as potential candidates. Elias even caught a man in a tricorn hat and glowing red eyes in the background. Elias chugged a few more beers and stood up on top of the table.

"Who wants to learn magic," He called out, raising his staff in the air. Miniature rainbow-colored fireworks popped in the air behind Elias. The sudden flash of heat almost caused Elias to slip off the table, but he managed to maintain his balance. "I can do-," Elias let out a loud burp, "- pretty much everything for the small price of nothing more than a handful of credits for my flight home." The wizard staggered off the table, barely catching a gust of wind to make sure he landed upright.

The dragonborn choked on the last bite of his meat, letting out a cacophony of awkward, phlegmy noises before finally coughing it out. The wizard’s sudden, albeit drunken, proposal had startled him. Not only had he been nervous just to be in the same room with a wizard, but during his stay in the bar, he had also began to experience the unique smell of demons with his super attuned Dragonborn senses. He decided to ignore that for now, as this mage looked like he probably needed some help. Durax stood up to his full seven foot tall self, and rushed over to help the human.

“Woah there, sir,” Durax put a gentle hand on the human’s shoulder in order to steady him in the event of another drunken incident. “Let’s sit you down. You appear to need it right now.”

He called to the bartender, “Excuse me, sir, but could we get a larger glass of water for our tipsy friend over here?” It was then that Durax had realized that he’d been speaking very loudly, as if the large, sparkly lizard man wasn’t distracting enough.

Durax sat down next to the wizard, a protective hand still on his shoulder. He’d had a lot of experience with drunk people: his cousin had a problem when Durax lived on Cre’sarak. Even still, he didn’t feel any more comfortable in these situations than he did the first time he dealt with a buzzed person. “Can I get you anything else?”

Jessie gave a slow chuckle as watched the drunken wizard. He was amusing, just the way he seemed to make a fool of himself. However she found the man interesting as he possessed some magical skill, and Jessie knew she had a bit of fire magic pumping through her veins.

She knew this because back on Artemis she discovered she could control the means of fire, by accident. She was nothing but a young girl at the time, cornered by thieves, and out of fear she was able to control, and even create it. Thankfully this was enough to scare them off, but it left her puzzled. Since then she had only ever been able to use it when scared or in the heat of battle, and even when she did use it, she could hardly even control it.

"Wait wait," Jessie said to the reptilian man, and wizard. "I'd like to see what this man can do actually, he seems as interesting as he is tipsy." Jessie said as she finished up her drink. Jumping off her seat and walking over to the wizard, she stuffed her hand into her pocket. "I'm sure I have a few credits." Jessie said as she suddenly pulled out a small handful.

Marudon just sat there drinking while the wizard started to cause a scene at the bar, obviously his offer was made with a drunken mind but it did get his attention. As he finished talking and the lizard looking person came up to them and tried to calm the situation down, Marudon had thought about taking the wizard's offer, he checked to see how much credit he has left and figured out that he has just enough to get a ride out of this planet.

Another person stepped up to the wizard, a masked figure wearing a tricorn hat, she offered handful of credits for his services. Marudon figured that if he stepped in and try to counter her offer then they would be here all day. "Wow!" Marudon stood up and said to the woman, "this poor man is drunk and not thinking straight, why don't we back try to sober him up first?" He then hands the wizard a tall glass of water, trying to get on his good side, "Here this might help." He then looked up at the lizard and noticed that he has been looking closely at him. "Oh boy," Marudon thought to himself, "This is going to be interesting." The lizard seems to be intrigued by Marudon, so Marudon readies his hand on his sword, just to be ready if the lizard tries to make a move.

Malachi almost had a fit however as once he'd managed to redirect himself away from walking straight to the man there were lights and noise behind him. His sword was half drawn before he saw that it was just some harmless fireworks and showmanship. Alright so now at least he knew that this man was a mage, if the fireworks coming from his staff were anything to judge by he was at least, it was quickly accompanied as Belial confirmed it had been magic that had been used.

It only took three or four movements for him to return to the table, and only one more for a small amount of credits to be placed on the table next to the drunk wizard. He needed proper training if he was going to use Belial's power properly, and as much as the demon had attempted to teach him it was slow progress, maybe attempting to learn something off of another wizard would speed things along.

It was only once the tunnel vision faded that he noticed several things. First of all there was a giant lizard standing holding onto the wizard, a sight that nearly once again made him draw his sword, the only time before he'd seen giant lizards was when they were trying to kill him, then again this one did look quite different to the kind he'd used to see. It seemingly wasn't hostile and was in fact trying to help the mage, so maybe he wouldn't have to fight and potentially kill it? It was only after the rather imposing figure of the lizard that he noticed that there were several others there also. Had the mage only meant one person or would he be willing to help them all out, he assumed the others gathered around were also mages and just from his own assessment of his skills they were probably stronger than he, if it was only a lesson for one and a fight broke out he'd have some trouble dealing with them it was likely.

Elias brushed off the advances of a large golden dragon man as he leaned heavily on his staff. The alcohol pulsing through his brain clouded any notice of the skepticism from those around him. Aside from the golden dragon calling Elias things like 'friend' and such without any prior introduction.

"No no," Elias slurred, "I don't need water. Only magic." The wizard raised a hand and the humidity in the air notidceably dropped as a fist-sized ball of water coalesced into the Elias' hand. He began sipping on the suspended air as he leaned casually against his staff as if it were a wall. He watched silently as the person in a tricorn hat, now identified as a girl, tossed a handful of credits on the table. Elias sensed a faint thrum mana flowing through the girl's core, it almost seemed firelike in nature, though with his drunken mind, Elias couldn't tell for sure. It could have just as easily been elemental or electric.

It still wasn't enough to cover a ticket halfway across the galaxy, much less to the next sector. Some guy with a large sword offered Elias a glass of water, to which he motioned towards the nearly slurped away ball of water floating in the palm of his hand. With a flick of his other wrist, the water in the glass joined the floating ball in Elias' palm. "Thanks," He said with what was intended to be a friendly smile, though it came out as a sloppy grin. Then a third human, this time equipped with a longsword showed up and tossed enough credits on the table for Elias to hitch a ride in some two-bit freighter's hold until the next sector, Elias was grateful anyway.

"So it appears that you children of magic desire the teachings of a wizard," Elias said cheerfully, "Awesome." He pocketed the credits and motioned for the group to follow him out the door and into the larger, and somewhat safer, central corridor. It stood tall and long enough that anything especially explosive should stand a chance at not breaching the hull. "Is there anything you guys would like to learn first?" Elias asked, hoping to get ideas of what he could show off.

Durax blew out a bit of smoke from his nostrils. Typically, he wouldn’t enjoy doing anything magical in a setting with so many people: the last time he did, he ended up accidentally setting someone’s pants on fire. However, this may be his only chance.

Durax removed his greatsword from the sheath on his back, and planted it into the ground. He knelt on one knee behind it with his head bowed. “I am Durax Zveldeim of the seventieth metallic household, mister human. I have want to learn my own power, as well as the power that I can continue to grow for.” He kept his head bowed.

The dagger heirloom hung from his neck, swinging softly like a pendulum. The thought of it gave him determination. He needed to do this, not only for himself, but for the justice those closest to him deserved. He steeled himself for the day ahead. Durax remembered his training as a nobleman, not to move from a kneel until the one it was directed to dismissed it.

Marudon laughs a bit at the way the dragon introduced himself, thinking that this he is so full of himself acting like a noble knight in place that is overun by criminals, but figures that he might as well also introduce himself. He uncloaks himself and said, "Well I guess we are introducing ourselves then," He steps up front beside Durax, looks down on him, "The name's Marudon Korodin. First off, yes I'm a demon and no, I'm not with the crusades if that's what you're all thinking. I have particular disliking towards them actually." He looks around at everyone and then ignites a flame in his hand, "And this is what I want your help with. I'm self taught in Pyrokinesis and have been doing well for myself, but I've noticed that I already reached the point where I need a teacher to advance." He then puts out the flame in his hand. As he finished talking, Marudon felt as if there was someone observing them. He quickly looks around them while waiting for a reaction from the wizard.

The wizard seemed like something between a drunken joke, and someone very powerful. Just the way he was able to turn humidity into fully formed water. Smiling she followed him.

As they arrived Jessie looked the dragon, chuckling at his knightly ways. "Durax, we're at a bar mate, not the round table." Jessie said before turning to the demon, he interested her far more. Especially with his slight demonstration with magic, because despite being a small parlour trick, it impressed her greatly.

"Well since we're going through the motions of becoming 'friends'," Jessie said rolling her eyes at the mentioning of friends. "I'm Jessie Red, an Immortal recruit, and-" She suddenly stopped, only to scratch her head. "-That's about it really..." She said before shaking her head, deciding she had gone a bit off topic, she looked back at the wizard. "Anyway, I just want to know how to control it, because right now I can't even do a simple parlour trick, like mister demon over there." Jessie said as she jerked her thumb towards Marudon

It was amusing, near enough the beginnings of a bad joke at this point really. Three humans a lizard and a wizard that was very likely drunk, although the ball of water that he'd conjured seemed proof that even drunk he was still in pretty good control of his power, he was evidently a wizard of enviable skill. This conclusion made Belial laugh that Malachi thought this was such a display of power, in mere moments the man's head was full of scenes of shocking carnage, a monstrous figure smashing entire armies with mere waves of his hand and obliterating planets with but a word of power.

Ok so maybe a ball of condensed water wasn't that great, it did however, have the bonus of not rendering Malachi speechless unlike Belial's visions of chaos and destruction. It was awesome power but it was just a shock to the system to see carnage on a scale he'd never even thought possible, let alone expected to ever see in his life.

So it was that he took a few moments to reply, by which point the lizard was bowed behind a sword, a fireball had been summoned and the other was striking up conversation with the others it seemed. He was a bit behind but then again he wasn't entirely sure what he needed anyway, multiple teachers would help him obviously, he could learn different things and different methods, but he didn't even really know Belial's method for controlling the demonic powers yet, let alone learnign a new one. "I'll take whatever I can learn really, i'm similar to the chatty one, not much control over what little I have."

Elias stared blankly at the golden lizard-man as he introduced himself in some kind of knightly manner, as if Elias were someone of great importance. The wizard simply threw his head back and laughed uncontrollably.

"Save the formalities lizard-man," Elias said, "You didn't pay." A drunken blush rose in his face as he swung around, allowing the others to introduce themselves. The man with the larger sword introduced himself as a pyromaniac demon and ignited a flame in his palm. Small, but it burned brightly. The sign of one specially attuned to fire. Elias' eyes slid over it as he tried to sense the subtle variations in the flame itself, trying to figure out what kind of flame it was. It crackled and flickered as though they were the fire of either youth, confusion, or rage. Elias couldn't tell. Then the tricorn hat red eyes lady joined in the laughter at Durax, mentioning that it was a bar, not the round table. More laughter erupted from Elias as the final one stepped forward. For a moment, Elias could swear he felt two minds nearby, though he ignored the thought. It was virtually impossible for two beings to share one body, after all. Regardless, everyone present wanted to learn magic.

"Lesson one of magic," Elias said, he outstretched a hand and dumped what remained of his water orb on Marudon's little fire with the intent of extinguishing it, "Know." The wizard attempted a dramatic drunken twirl on his toes and spun his staff in a vertical circle, a blazing ball of white lightning flew up into the air, crashing into the glass skylight above. "Oops." Elias muttered to himself as cracks spread across the space-rated glass. With any luck, it wouldn't break in the next fifteen minutes.

He felt extremely, extremely embarrassed. He kept forgetting that the ways on Cre’sarak had absolutely no bearing on the outside world, much less at a place where half the people wouldn’t remember this night after waking up hungover the next morning, such as the human in the purple robes. He blew a ring of smoke from deep within his lungs; a nervous habit he had picked up as a child. He felt even more embarrassed when the wizard reminded him that he hadn’t paid him.

Durax took that as a dismissal and stood up, sheathing his greatsword. He reached down to his left arm, and brushed off some of his loose scales. He picked them off the ground, about forty five of them, hoping that the wizard would accept them as payment. Usually humans did, considering they were made of pure gold. “I do hope that this will be enough,” Durax took a step toward the wizard, and that was when the human blasted a bolt of lightning into the ceiling.

Durax jumped back. The sudden explosion of energy was enough to make him do so already, but the noise was deafening to the Dragonborn’s heightened sense of hearing. He covered his ears for a second, then made sure he still had the scales. He had not dropped any, thankfully. He walked up to the wizard and held out his open palms for the wizard to take the rare metal his body had produced. “Please,” Durax said, “please take these as payment. And… if you would allow it, master what’s-your-name, I believe it would benefit the entirety of the party here if I  were to heal you a bit in order to make sure that your grace does not blow a hole in the wall or ceiling again. Thank you for listening to me, friend human.”

A young man who looks almost like he was a girl walks into the bar as he sat down. Watching the wizard, lizard man and 2 humans. He attempts to light a cigarettes finding himself missing a lighter as the magic in the air almost visibly to the mages coalesce towards him before most of it disappears back into the air. He attempts to light the end of the cigarette but instead ends up freezing his fingers. "Fuck, damnit"

A young looking woman would enter the bar, wearing a jacket over her light armor. Her pistol would remain holstered at her side as she looks around the bar, spotting the wizard. She would move closer in interest, looking a bit out of place in the bar with her unblemished face and clean outfit. She takes a seat near the wizard, watching the show but not joining the crowd.

She watches the new found woman, keeping a hand on their pistol as they continue drinking and watching the wizard and cloaked woman.
