Shadowhunter Runes - An Overview
Shadowhunter Runes are a specialized form of Rune magic used by Nephilim within the Shadowhunter Order. When drawn on the skin using a magical item known as a Stele, these Runes grant the user one (or more, if multiple Runes are used) of many abilities that can be useful to a Shadowhunter who's out in the field, though most are only temporary, becoming nothing more than a tattoo after a short period of time if the rune is not reactivated.
While runes do cause some uneasiness and a slight stinging pain, most runes do not actually cause harm against a Shadowhunter.

Some of the abilities granted by Shadowhunter Runes include but are not limited to;
-Enhanced Speed
-Enhanced Strength
-Clairvoyance
-Invisibility
-Improved Reflexes
-Enhanced Healing

While normal Runes can be harnessed by anyone trained in the art of Rune magic, Shadowhunter runes are only usable by Nephilim and Angels due to the connection of the Runes to Angel blood. If someone outside these two races attempts to use Shadowhunter Runes, the effects can range from agonizing pain to death. Because of this, people outside the Shadowhunter Order tend to avoid attempting to use their Runes.

Deflect/Block

The Deflect/Block Rune helps Shadowhunters fend off incoming blows. Although handy in fierce conflicts and quickly and easily applied, it is often impractical to use in the course of battle. It is most effective when applied on defensive structures. It must constantly be reapplied to be effective.

Healing

The Healing Rune alleviates pain, closes cuts and wounds and temporarily raises the temperature, helping burn out infection much like a fever does. It can also be used in case of minor health concerns or illnesses such as headaches. This rune glows golden when first used before sinking into the skin, not even leaving a scar behind like average Runes.
However, the Healing Rune is mostly ineffective against Demonic poisons, injuries caused by demonic runes and metal, and is also not considered the best treatment for severe injuries, such as wounds with something inside that would need removal as the Rune would close the skin over them.

Angelic Power

The Angelic Power Rune is one of the most powerful Runes and symbolizes a Shadowhunter's status as a member of the Order. As well as being an insignia of sorts, the Angelic Power Rune marks the wielder's weapons Angelic properties, preventing Demons from healing wounds received by a marked weapon. This Rune is permanent and does not need to be reapplied.

Agility

The Agility Rune is a long-lived rune that equips the marked Nephilim with incredibly fast reflexes, not just of body, but also of mind. All Nephilim receive this rune early in their training, giving them the ability to process information quickly and react. The Agility Rune, while it can be reactivated to temporarily improve its effects, is permanent and does not need reapplication.

Cloaking
Shadowhunter Runes (Generation One) Unseen10

The Cloaking Rune is self-explanatory. This Rune cloaks and decloaks the user at will, though when the Rune is activated, the user will only be cloaked for a few hours before they automatically become visible again.

Agony
Shadowhunter Runes (Generation One) Agony10

The Agony Rune was primarily developed as a Rune for use in interrogation and torture. It would be forcibly applied to a prisoner and then activated every time an interrogator wanted to cause them excruciating pain. While it can be used as an offensive Rune out in the field, it's an extreme rarity to get close to an opponent for long enough to be able to draw and activate the rune.
