The Aether Realm is a mirror to our physical world. Rather than being made out of physical things with methods and rules, the Aether Realm is made out of thoughts and pure imagination, obeying nothing but the limits of human imagination. Every magically attuned being's mind shines in this realm, feeding it with their imagination, though some minds shine less brightly than others. Every night, humans have an opportunity to gaze into the Aether Realm and build their dreamscape in their subconsciousness. All magic, even the most subtle, is visible in its true form through the Aether Realm. Though to see it in greater clarity and understand the mechanics of it, one must allow their spirit to delve ever deeper in the Aether Realm.

One must be careful while doing this, though. Inhabiting the Aether Realm are the mindless ghosts of lost souls and otherworldly predators who exist simply to feed off of a sentient mind, prowling the Aether Realm for a bright enough mind to latch on to and terrorize their dreamscape. A magic user allowing their spirit to delve too deeply or stay too long in the Aether Realm will surely be attacked by one such being.

Talented magic-users may be able to detach their spirit from their body to enter the Aether realm or willingly open a hole to gaze into it in order to commune with the spirits on “the other side.” Doing this is immensely dangerous, as without a body to protect the spirit, any injuries sustained will be dealt directly to the person's psyche and potentially cripple some aspect of their thought or, worse, make them go insane. Because the Aether Realm does not follow the laws of physics, protecting one’s spirit can be easy with the right mindset. A particularly structured mind can force the Aether Realm to obey his rules while a wild one might be able to use the lawless bounds of the Aether Realm to protect himself. One thing is for sure though, a magic user must keep his soul in his body as an anchor to the material realm lest he become stranded in the Aether Realm. Returning will be immensely difficult, if possible at all.
