The planet Tenebris was colonized nearly 300 years ago. Humans had come to the world, their scanners showing that it was indeed habitable. However, due to the inordinate thickness of the planet's clouds, their sensors had treated them as the planet's surface. However, that was not the case.
Upon landing on Tenebris their ship's core malfunctioned stranding them on the rocky planet. The heavy clouds blocked out any and all sunlight causing the world to be a dark world. Though, the natural flora and fauna of the world demonstrate some of the most ingenious uses of bioluminescence.
Now stranded, the colonists turned to their biologists and geneticists that had come with them. They decided to alter their own genetic structures in order to more easily live on the world. They relied on the use of the genetic technology (gene splicing, etc.) for this process. This decision resulted in the creation of the Tenebris Variants.
Variant 1 -
This Variant has white skin and white streaks in their hair. they are typically blonde haired and have light green or blue eyes. They can see better in the dark then a normal human, but are inferior to the second Variant. They lack physical prowess, but surpass most humans with their mental faculties. They were designed to be the researchers and developers of the Tenebris colony.
Variant 2 -
This variants has dark grey skin and black hair. Their pupils are slitted and their irises are typically brown, dark blue, or dark green. They can see clearly in the dark and their physical prowess far surpasses the first variant. Being designed to be the workers and defenders of the colony, their mental faculties were reduced. However, doing so had an unintended side-effect. Their diminished minds gained a stronger contact with the realm of magic, however, they also lacked the natural shields that kept raw magic from turning a creature insane. Thus, the second Variant soon lost most of their control and much of their intellect and humanity. They have degraded into nothing more than tribal savages, reverring magic as a gift from the gods.
